Pregnant and working as cleaner.

Hello all just looking for some opinions. before i was pregnant i was already working as a cleaner in a school here in london. There’s was a toilet which everyday had poop smeared over the walls ( yes with their fingers) i’ve reported it multiple times and of course i needed to clean it in the end. they spoke to parents and it stopped for a while.
now it started again. the only difference is i’m pregnant, and i physically feel sick and not speaking about the amount of germes even using gloves that i’ll be carrying.
am i being to fussy? or is it acceptable to not clean it?

It’s definitely something you need to bring up with your employer, as why is the faeces being left there all day - this needs attending to immediately (as it should be with any bodily fluid)

With regards to whether it’s acceptable not to clean it, you need to read what your contract says with regards to cleaning bodily fluids, also are you provided with the correct PPE? And equipment to deal with this.

On first read it seems shocking as a pregnant women you’d be expected to clean this but it’s not that unrealistic, what about pregnant nurses, carers, nursery nurses etc.

In my contract states like cleaning to keep it tidy, i never had this issue when i first started years back. and i would presume in a school as not normal to have poo on walls.. as a one off probably yes i shouldn’t be able to complain, but almost every day…
the only equipment we’re given is gloves and a cloth 😅

Have a re-read of your contract it should have specifics regarding what they expect you to clean etc.

Definitely bring it up with your employer though, you need clarity.

Keep raising it and insist on proper gear to clean it. If you are part of a team, can you be deployed onto tasks that require less heavy chemicals too?

Escalate and escalate. It's going to be pretty embarrassing for parents to be on the receiving end of a letter from the school that says your children are so feral the pregnant school cleaner is having to clean their filth off the walls and the school should be having assemblies every time it happens. Bores the crap out of them so peer pressure works there.

A friend did TEFL in Japan. The kids had to clean the school themselves on a rota basis every day before going home. I can't imagine they were in any way as unclean as this.
