Loss of taste after illness

I was really ill back in September, and in hindsight it was most probably covid.
It left me with a loss of taste, but also with a strange taste/feeling/sensation in my mouth which has worsened.

Anybody else had this and did it ever improve?

Not me but my sister was left with a strange taste after covid and some smells made her gag. The smell of cooked chicken made her feel sick and she couldn't tolerate butter although she can now. She could also smell cigarette smoke in places there were no smokers.

I had OG Covid back in 2020 and had very similar. I had pretty light symptoms and never lost my sense of smell completely but it went bonkers! Not quite cigarette smoke but a sort of dusty musty smoky smell. It was really strong and constant for over 6 months then started to fade over the next few years. I still get it occasionally but it's rare now and I hope it'll go away completely one day!

Thanks for your replies.

I've always been extra sensitive to smells so that's not changed much.
It's just the funny taste in my mouth and odd sensation.
Just wondering if I'll ever get my taste buds back!
