Trying to balance part-time work and home stuff

I work part-time outside the home, just a few shifts here and there. It doesn’t bring in much.
Just wondering if anyone else has been in this stage—part-time work + young child + still finding your feet? Did things feel more balanced as your child got older?

I felt like I was constantly switching between work mode and mum mode, never really doing either fully. Once my child started nursery and had a bit more independence, things slowly began to feel lighter.

What are you finding a challenge?

dongbibi · 13/11/2025 02:20

Yeah, I think it’s the juggling that gets you, not the actual job. Even part-time feels like full-time once you throw in school runs, cooking, cleaning, and just trying to catch your breath for five minutes.

You’re definitely not alone in feeling a bit unbalanced.

I think you’re probably finding it harder due to the lack of routine. I’ve always worked full time and every day ran like clockwork. If you work random shifts then it’s hard to put things into a structure. You should have loads of time though if you’re only working occasionally!
