I’m not one to bang on about how great my kids are (because they’re not), but 18 months ago DD started playing drum kit, and has thrown herself into percussion in several bands, including our local ex-pit village brass band. Today she was on bass drum and started the marching at the Remembrance service. She had the first 4 beats to herself, and her timing was impecable. They marched to the beat of her drum all the way through. An hour later, she did it all again in a different town. She’s just 14, nothing fazes her.

That’s awesome! Go DD. You should be proud.

I am actually stunned that you just said your kids aren’t great though 😯

Well that sounds pretty flipping great to me! Good for her, what a bold young lady, I know when I was 14 the very thought of being the centre of attention in a huge crowd would've sent me scurrying back to my hovel bedroom never to be seen again.

Good for her, you should be very proud!

They are great, I meant that I recognise that they have their grotty moments too.

Her bedroom is definitely a hovel!

Well done to your daughter!

That is absolutely fantastic by itself - at 14?? - and suggests to me she’s going to go far. Proud Mum indeed 💐

Brilliant! DH is our Parade Marshal (proud DW moment). A great drum lead makes it or breaks if for everyone who wants to march; it’s so important for the veterans and all the cadets. Well done her (and of course well done you as DM too).

She is begining to seriously consider a military music career.

Well done to your dd! Thats amazing ❤️❤️

That is absolutely wonderful . I was out with a brass band doing a remembrance service today too. Bass drum is a BIG responsibility. The band must have a lot of confidence in her (again, brilliant!) and ex pit bands have high standards too!. There’s so much to be gained from those type of experiences.

She normally plays in the “baby band” and was invited to play with the “big band”, so they must have had faith in her. She didn’t let them down, and her preChristmas diary is suddenly very busy!
