I used to enjoy a good laugh but I’ve becoming really boring and miserable in my old age. Any tips for lightening up a bit?

What were you doing and who were you doing it with when you laughed?

Good question. Friends, family, colleagues. I like to be busy and around people but I had to retire early so life has slowed down a lot.

Do you have a husband, partner, children? Retire early is vague, are you talking 64, 54?
Once your friends have retired surely you will be having more human interaction then. But that depends on a lot of what early retirement means?

Did you want to retire? Were you forced to due to health?
Can you be busy and around people in a new retired role?

Go and do things that you love. Concerts, comedy, theatre, sports either playing or watching, trips to museums and galleries. Arrange to go out for dinner with friends. Host parties. Pick interesting holiday destinations. Join a book group. If you fill your life with things you enjoy then you will be having fun.

The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin has many ideas

I like a good self-help book so I will try that.

I have one teen at home and another adult dc, plus lots of family commitments eg elderly parents, no partner. I am 60 and I was made redundant. I am restricted with travel unfortunately. It’s more day to day, I’m not jolly or seeing the funny side of things or engaging with people in the way I did when I was working. I find myself getting irritated about little things like an untidy kitchen.
