Just had the most tense afternoon …..putting up a picture!! What should have been easy actually caused me and DH to have a passive aggressive falling out.Things that didnt help:
Disagreed on location and height
Didnt have the right fixings
Misplaced my glasses halfway through so couldnt see properly.
Knocked over a glass of water
Disagreed on whether it was straight..

Took forever too . We’re fine now and it looks grand but what a palaver!

Any flat pack. We have completely different approaches to assembly and it's always stressful. So now, I invite my best mate over and we have a glass of wine and build any flat packs and DP treats us to a takeaway!

I have actually just said to DH we need a glass of wine to recover from that!

It used to be getting the Christmas trimmings from the shed and putting them up, every. sodding. year. Things have changed now for various reasons and we're trimming free these days. I do miss them as I always enjoyed them once they were up, but I don't miss the fucking trauma. It was the absolute opposite of joy and left me a nervous wreck.

Literally making plans, any normal day of the week, but especially date nights.

What do you want to do tomorrow?
Oh I don't know
Are you free?
Yes
Well shall we do X?
Maybe

For fuck sake just say yes or no or offer up a fucking option then.

Yes here too! There was a run of a few years where we just dumped the old stuff and bought new. We have managed to find a better way now..do it early and with a sherry!

We also fail at cooking together. We like the idea of it , but sadly we do not live in a rom com so instead of it being a bonding experience it just reveals our very different tempers!

DP comes into the kitchen to hlep. Not help. It looks like helping, but it's all wrong and makes no fucking sense and just causes more frustration.

CrushingOnRubies · 07/11/2025 21:05

How to mash potato. I was late teens at home and mum was saying I was mashing wrong. There was dogs barking people crying the works. We avoid being in the kitchen together now. Which now I’ve moved out is much easier

DS4 putting clean bedsheets on. It's become a spectator sport for his siblings because it's like watching a blind giraffe trying to thread a needle.

DH replacing wall lights in lounge with a hideous cheap looking version. 'Antique brass' that looks as though it has been left outdoors to weather and scratched by a five year old with coarse sandpaper. They are also a hideous shape and not fitted flush to the wall. I kept quiet for three whole days before I told him they were going - he accepted that then complained he still had to listen to my rant......Three days is a long time to work up to it......

FinallyHere · 07/11/2025 21:17

it’s a sorrow to me that we can’t work well together. It’s fine if I sous chef while he cooks but he just doesn’t know how to do the same for me. Another sorrow is that he is increasingly frail and limited mobility so just can’t do these things any more. I just do them exactly as I like them. Pros and cons really.

I get things out ready - pans, chopping board etc - and DH helpfully puts it away again so I've got room to cook Hmm

I don't do joint tasks with DH 😂 EVER

we’re both too ‘independent’ —cunts—

A neighbour giving my DS a cot that neighbour’s child outgrew.

it sat in pieces in DGS room for weeks. I noticed it had stains and was generally grubby. The same neighbour has form for dumping stuff in the bin cupboard instead of taking it to the dump, and I caught him ditching a vacuum cleaner in a skip someone else had hired.

I was very displeased with DS for letting the neighbour palm his junk off on us, and I ended up screaming at DS and DH to get it the fuck out of my house after week 4 of this cot lying in pieces despite my repeated requests that they deal with it.

DH could not grasp why I was so mad.
I also told neighbour to throw his own shit away in future.

The way he hangs washing on the line. It's just wrong and now thinks it's funny to get to the washing first and then watch me twitch while looking at it.
The way he encourages the boys to wear odd socks and mis matched pj's, they all laugh while I cry

This…. DP Is horrendous to build with, he gets stressed right off the bat, then almost everytime will say something is shit and not measured properly… he never reads the instructions, so tries doing it freehand. I don’t scrutinise the instructions but I have a look and skim read just to get the joist and I know most of the time instructions are shoddy. he does it in the end but the process makes me want to strangle him. I prefer to build myself. I did a 7 rawer chest of drawers by myself and it was bliss.

See mine will do it wrong on purpose so I don’t ask him to do it again.

Oh god! Putting the tv on the wall is the most stressful event ever for me. DH and I have renovated many properties and work really well and happily together but only the mention of putting a tv on the wall brings me out in a cold sweat 😥

WonderfulSmith · 07/11/2025 22:55

To get through a single fucking day without moaning about some bit of him that hurts.
