Gone midnight, had a full week of this already. Still consistent loud bangs, although slowing down somewhat. And it's pissing down here! Who are these arseholes letting off industrial style fireworks at this time in the rain.

Like many, I have a traumatised dog. She needs last toilet which has been impossible since 4.30

Is this a new messaging service offered by Mumsnet now? You type something in the box and it gets communicated to the exact person you want to talk to?

If so : Dear David, see you tomorrow at 7.30.

This post is every year.
You're not the first and not the last
The world and his dog will suffer
To be honest im on the 2nd dog and they have no clue what day it is

Fivegreenfrogs · 06/11/2025 00:43

It's bonfire night what do you actually expect?
I get a but frustrated regarding people complaining about this knowing that this is a public holiday that has existed for hundreds of years.
I'm a night shift worker, permanent 12hour waking night shifts in a hospital. And honestly the noise I have to put up with during the day when I'm trying to sleep. Because no one gives a shit. Thing is I'm aware they don't give a shit and why should they?? Why should people stop living their lives to cater to me??
I have got eae plugs. I've got a white noise machine and black out blinds.

You know its bonfire night. Prepare your dog. There's things you can do.

Raquelos · 06/11/2025 00:54

Newsflash: the world doesnt revolve around you and your dog.

My own dog slept through the whole thing, upside down as he does every year. They just don't bother him. But our neighbours poor dog was howling and yelping for hours as the bangs went off. He was alone in the house, I so wanted to go and get him and help him...

DiscoBeat · 06/11/2025 00:59

I'm OK with fireworks on the nearest weekend to the 5th, and the 5th itself and Diwali of course. We had some tonight but only about half an hour of them between 7.30 and 8. But after midnight isn't on, and neither is any other random day!

Why did they go and leave him today of all days?? 😡

Newsflash the world doesn’t revolve around selfish tits and their loud fireworks either. See I can play this game too. If you don’t care about domestic animals at least spare a thought for the wildlife.

Grilledxribs · 06/11/2025 01:12

Its for a few days on and off once a year.
I dont like them neither i dont like christmas but others do let people get on with it.

IKR.
It was about 6:30 when I heard him so distressed. It broke my heart as he would go quiet for a few seconds and then another bang would go off and he would be howling. He sounded so terrified, I wanted to go and cuddle him.
Our own dog has never been bothered by fireworks (or anything tbh, he is one relaxed boy) but we do always leave background noise when he is alone which I think chills him out.

Unfortunately it kind of does though because as I've said its a national holiday that's been going on hundreds of years on this date. That the majority of people in this country take part in.
Certainly I don't think lound fireworks should be allowed for sale to the general public. There needs to be more regulation.
Hopefully there will be. But even with that, there WILL still be fireworks on bonfire night. People with sensitive pets need to work around that.
Just as anyone does in any situation where their needs Unfortunately may take a back burner for a while, to an event or whatever is going on with the majority.

Well done you. When you are trying to sleep during the day the majority of people are working, your noise is quite mild. And manageable. As you said, ear plugs etc.

Most dogs cannot be trained out of firework fear, and it's been relentless here for a week now.

I actually quite like fireworks, but there needs to be more regulation. It's been relentless here now for over a week and even starting before dark! Until after midnight. Nearly 2am now & still going! I think many on this thread must live in areas that celebrate bonfire night for just a few hours and it's done & dusted. I would have no problem with that!

I’m with you OP. Gone 2am and still exploding and banging here. I’m so sick of it. Really want to sleep. I’m very much in favour of banning the sale to general public and having organised licensed displays only.

Contrary to what @Fivegreenfrogsbelieves, it’s actually not a public national holiday! Imagine that, we could all have a day off work if it was.

Thortour · 06/11/2025 02:12

On reflection Guy Fawkes should have considered Diwali when he decided to try to blow up the H of P. Some historical figures are deeply inconsiderate.

I see this argument every year.... I wonder how much damage fireworks do to local wildlife compared to dogs/cats. I love fireworks, I don't do a private display at home as my garden is way too small, but honestly why should I care about random dogs/cats when inconsiderate 'but he's friendly' owners don't give a shit about others year round?
