Parking Manchester Airport

Chapattli · 03/11/2025 19:38

Can anyone recommend somewhere to wait for someone arriving at Manchester airport in a big vehicle? Our car is out of action so having to use the old land rover 😅 just not sure it's even possible to get it into the multistorey let alone get in a space! Really don't want to spend £50 odd just to pick her up.

Is there anywhere to wait so that DD can find me? Bit stumped as to what else to do! Thank you

Which terminal and rough arrival time?

Clearinguptheclutter · 03/11/2025 19:42

You’ll have to pay a small fortune unfortunately. That said plenty of huge cars do. I’d try and time it so that you’re not there until at least 20 minutes after her flight actually lands. Sometime you can be straight out in 10 minutes but that is very rare.

nannyl · 03/11/2025 19:46

You have to pay to drop off / collect from the airport.

We have a big landrover which we can / do / have parked in the multi storys without issue so don't stress about that.

Pretty sure there is a park and ride drop off where to can drop off then bus in for free, but not looked into it.

Ah yes the free car park a bus ride away. Do that!

Thanks do you know where that is please? Definitely an option!

I've just watched a YouTube video showing the new T1 pick up carpark... Presume it's feasible to wait up somewhere and then come to the pick up car park when she's arrived? I believe its about £6 for 30mins? Does anyone know if the barrier accepts cash and credit card or is it an app payment? Thank you!

a lot of the roads do not allow parking I would park either the junction before if coming along the M56 as there is a m&s garage opposite the romper pub. Or if it’s late evening across the way on one of the office parks just be careful as it’s all double yellow there. Anywhere closer to the airport is a no no

There are no barriers. You need to pay the charge online within 24hours of using pick up or drop off or you’ll get £100 fine. It’s all done on ANPR now

Helpfullright · 03/11/2025 20:31

Terminal 1 pick up is still card barrier not pay on line yet.

I was picked up there last week, it’s £6.50 and card payment on exit, no app. It’s not multi-storey and there are buses in there so plenty of space. I reckon you’ll be fine to wait a while if needed

This is for drop off, not pick up

The also send you a fine when you can prove you’ve paid! Then a letter ticking you off again for not paying within the timescale when you have, as they cancel it on appeal. I’ll never use it again.

Brightbluesomething · 03/11/2025 21:05

I used JetParks 1 collection point last time which is free for drivers, but travellers have to get the bus there.

not really feasable to wait anywhere that close.

Its double red lines in most of the vicinity

whiteroseredrose · 03/11/2025 21:18

Depends if who you’re collecting can walk a bit. I’ve picked DH up at the Etrop Grange hotel a couple of times. It’s about a 15-20 minute walk from Terminal 1.

TwoBlueFish · 03/11/2025 21:25

Park in T1 meet & greet, it’s not multi storey and cards are accepted at the barrier.

If you want to wait nearby then come off J6 of the M56 and go along Hale Road towards Hale Barns and park up on one of the residential streets (about a 7 minute drive back to the airport) until they land and are off the plane. Then go to the T1 meet & greet car park (J5, follow the signs towards the station then hang a left at the roundabout just after the station and car park is on the right).

There’s an Asda with a cafe and a Costa in Hale Barns with a car park behind if you wanted somewhere to get a coffee while you wait.

this is a good shout actually, as long as its not peak time (where the traffic past the airpor tis horrendous) that would be a 10 minute drive away
