Why are so many people awful online?

Why do people say such nasty things or are so judgemental when commenting online? Famous people and online influencers being trolled by anonymous accounts, even scathing comments on posts on here - I wouldn’t say things online that I wouldn’t say in person to someone’s face. It seems like the whole ‘be kind’ movement has been forgotten about.

I know what you mean. It’s so depressing to realise how spiteful and selfish a lot of people seem to be these days

Because they know they can get away with it

Because they can hide behind a keyboard. I only ever say online what I’m not afraid to say in real life.

People being their true selves with nobody there to judge them?

It just seems such a sad state of affairs to me 😞

I suppose some people feel powerless and hiding behind a keyboard makes them feel that they have power. Or maybe sometimes it's MH issues. Or people that troll celebs, maybe it's jealousy? There's some people on MN who are determined to argue and pick apart someone's post - maybe they're just bored.
