Anyone remember an advert with this music?

Or am I making things up? I have searched and searched to no avail.

As soon as I heard it recently there was that kind of instant recognition that you get from something remembered from long ago. Maybe mid 70s to mid 80s? I have no idea why but I kind of had the idea there was a dog. That might be an entirely false lead. No pun intended! 😆

I can tell you what I am not remembering and that's The Secret Garden because I never watched that.

If you scroll down from the You Tube link , someone has said Wind in the Willows ?

PearlClutzsche · 03/11/2025 08:41

No, but it's sort of reminiscent of the Hovis ads, with the music by Dvorak - New World Symphony.

No, that was in 1969, before I was born! Thank you though.

Ah, I love this piece! I only remember it from The Secret Garden though, sorry. Ronald Binge also wrote Sailing By which is played on R4 just before the late shipping forecast 😃

Yes, it does a bit. It's just bugging me if I remember something that didn't exist or not! This is my last ditch attempt to find out.

I love that too! My piano teacher played that for me when I was about 5 or 6, I remember being entranced by it.

I also thought of Hovis/New World Symphony.

You could be remembering a repeat?

SeaAndStars · 03/11/2025 10:27

Elements of the music make me think of the music from Chariots of Fire.

suburburban · 03/11/2025 12:52

Beautiful music

Oneearringlost · 03/11/2025 14:50

I can't help I'm afraid, its The Secret Garden for me; maybe a repeat?
But, it gave me a very visceral 'jolt' of recognition and took me back to a place when I had more of my life ahead of me than behind.
Thank you. OP, for giving me a moment of such pain and pleasure.

I'm scratching my head here OP. I definitely remember that music from an ad (and not Hovis). It's going to drive me mad! If it comes to me at 3am I'll be sure to post 😆

Malbecfan · 03/11/2025 16:00

It was definitely the Secret Garden in the 1970s. It's a beautiful piece of music which I have played a number of times.

Ronald Binge was a fantastic composer of many pieces now described as "British Light Music". However, he wrote lots of other pieces too - DD1 played part of his Concerto for Alto Saxophone for grade 7 or 8 and I remember what a lovely piece it was. Going to listen again now!

Sorry!

For everyone saying I could be remembering it from a repeat of the Wind in the Willows or The Secret Garden, I'm certain I've never seen either.

I haven’t the time myself but maybe a search of Ronald Bonge on IMDB?

Myfridgeiscool · 03/11/2025 17:27

That sounds like John Lewis Christmas music. No idea if it actually is!

calimali · 03/11/2025 17:31

It is very like the music for the wool advert, but I think that was from The Four Seasons.

Good idea! Sadly it yielded nothing. Thank you though!

That's Canon and Gigue.

Morning by Grieg was used in a Weetabix ad years ago. Similar vibe to this and the Dvorak.

No, that's not what I remember. Morning was used in a Nescafe ad when I was about 5 and I taught myself to play a bit of it on the piano. It's been one of my favourites ever since.

It did remind me of the Ho is advert too.
Could it be for a food product. Something set within an old fashioned kitchen? Or am I just thinking Hovis?

Once, I couldn't find a key I needed. I racked my brains over and over, whilst frantically hunting and eventually, I CLEARLY remembered throwing it in the bin. Except I hadn't. It was still on my keyring!

Thinking about this seems a bit like that. Sometimes I think there was a dog and it was for Pedigree Chum or something. Then sometimes I think it was bread. Sometimes I think there was a friendly granny, sometimes green fields and hills. I can't be sure any of it is real!
