Fours days in Berlin - what to do

I'm off to Berlin for four days (to stay with a friend who is working out there) and want to have the best time but out of all the tourist attractions nothing stands out. I love history but more about the story of the people in history/people's lives rather than gawping at buildings and I'm not mad about art galleries. I've already visited Satchenhausen on a previous visit over 20 years ago. Absolutely love a walking tour and am fascinated with East Germany and what life was like there before the wall went down. I've looked on Trip Advisor etc but can't see the wood for the trees. Has anyone been to Berlin/know Berlin who can make any recommendations? Many thanks

Not a walking tour and it was almost 20 years ago, but I would recommend the Checkpoint Charlie museum.

DDR Museum, the wall, walking tour, Potsdam for a day. TV tower.

Roof of the Reichstag - free but needs to be booked in advance.
Free walking tour - there are loads to choose from - will try to find the one we did last year.

Jewish Museum was very good.
Boat trip.
Will come back shortly

Some ideas

Berlin zoo for pandas
Tv tower for great views
DDR museum for an insight into life in old East German
Potsdam for quaint shops and beautiful building and plazas
East Side gallery on the old Berlin wall
Cathedral
Old Town and beautiful old church
River cruise
Reichstag for rooftop views at night

So much to do in Berlin. Have a brilliant time

Flat tire bike tour
Jewish museum is the best museum in the world imho
Agree roof of the Reichstag is brilliant - remember to take your passport, you can see Russian graffiti up there
Breakfast at Zeit fur Brot
The underground bunker tour is so fun - I think it’s called Underwelt.
Trip to Wannsee is lovely if you have the time
Hotdogs from the imbiss under Prenzlauer Berg station

I adore Berlin - great food, amazing history, lovely atmosphere.

We did a great walking tour. It was just one we booked through Expedia. It was only a couple of hours but it covered loads of really fascinating history and brought it all to life.
Tour company was Insider Tour Berlin and it was the Third Reich and Cold War Tour.

Thanks so much everyone for all the amazing advice! Lots of things that I'd not heard of so I'll be looking it all up. I'm so looking forward to my trip now. It's going to be packed - in a good way.
