Norwich Castle Museum £27 million refurb - is it really that bad??

We thought we might visit Norwich Castle and Museum this Saturday and see the results of the recently completed £27 million refurbishment, and experience the 'audio visual immersive experience' in the 'transformed' Keep.

Oh dear! The reviews on Tripadvisor are absolute Stinkeroo. Too bright, plasticy, Disneyfied, noisy, crowded, confusing, lack of signage and interpretation, not worth the money etc. And the lift in the Keep has broken down....

Is it really that bad? The Gallery of Medieval Life in Norwich sounds interesting, plus the Boudicca, Romans, Saxons and Vikings galleries, art stuff etc etc. And I see they've hung on to the Dead Bird collection.

Has anyone visited since the refurb, and can you tell me if a) it's a bit tacky but has its points, or b) it really is total shite, go to the Bridewell instead.

Many thanks!

I should add there are no children in our party - someTripadvisor reviewers did notice that the parties of schoolchildren were quite enjoying engaging with the 'tacky' interactive displays!

One of our group is a bit breathless and worried about the lift in the Keep being out of action. However, he also loves nature, so I guess we could park him in Dead Birds while we tramp up and down the stairs.
