Meringue pieces in buttercream?

I am making a lemon birthday cake for a 75 year old friend and I haven't got much to lift it or decorate it apart from some coloured sprinkles!
I have got lemon buttercream and home made lemon curd, I also have a pack of 4 lemon flavoured meringue shells in the cupboard and I was wondering how they would be broken into pieces and folded into the meringue to fill the cake?
Any other ideas welcome thanks!

I would think that meringue pieces in buttercream might be unbelievably sweet and also might go soggy. Why not scatter pieces of meringue over the top of the cake (and can always put round the sides too, if enough and you're feeling ambitous).

Buttercream on top of the cake, sprinkle with crushed meringue and lightly drizzle lemon curd? If the lemon curd is really thick maybe gently warm it up to a drizzling consistency first?

I wouldn't mix all 3 together.

You could make a 75 out of card, put them on top of the cake, flat. Then add sprinkles. Lift off and you will have a 75 in the negative space and the sprinkles around it. Make sure you brush the card clean of sprinkles onto the cake before you lift it off so you don't get rogue sprinkles in the middle.

Is the cake for tonight? If so, I agree that the meringue will go soggy within the butter cream. I too would crush it up and sprinkle on top with a drizzle of the lemon curd.

If not for tonight, and you have prime, order a topper to jazz it up. This all came flat packed and I didn't think much of it, but once assembled, I was rather pleased.
