Best German restaurant in London for pre-theatre

I love German food - but original, not modernised versions (think jägerschnitzel and a Kölsch).

I'm off to the theatre (Peacock theatre) on Saturday evening and fancy popping to a German restaurant first.

I wonder if anyone can recommend one? For food and access to the theatre (happy
to use underground but less sure of buses!)

Thanks in advance.

Although it’s Viennese, Fischer’s in Marylebone might be right up your alley. It’s got a beautiful atmosphere and delicious food (schnitzel, wurst, etc.).

Another vote for Fischer's, even though it's Austrian. I have heard good things about German Gymnasium but haven't been myself

I havent been there but The Delauney was recommended to me and it says it serves Central European cuisine inspired by the Grand Cafes plus has an Alpine cocktail menu!

Thanks so much. Off to google
which will be easier to get to the theatre after!

German Gymnasium is proper German. The Delaunay and the Wolseley are both excellent but they’re Austrian. You won’t get spätzle at either.

St Moritz at 161 Wardour Street , Swiss food including spaezle!

German Gymnasium is great and right next door to King's Cross/St pancras tube - from there you want the Piccadilly line to Holborn

I’ve been to GG, Fischer’s and Delaunay. All are lovely and Fischers would be my fave/most intimate and glam BUT Delaunay is only 5 wins walk from the Peacock theatre so that def gets my vote in this case.

I am in no way a German food expert so this is amateur advice. All lovely choices. All also similarly expensive so if you are watching the budget just be careful what you order
