Can somebody identify this Irish song?

I haven't heard it in years and cannot remember the title or who sang it!

The basic plot is it's a series of letters written by an old man in Ireland to his son who has gone to the USA.

Each verse starts with something like: "Kilkenny, Ireland, Eighteen hundred and sixty, my dear beloved son, John."

Does anyone know it?
