Oh, the original masterchef, presented by Loyd Grossman, when the contestants were all mainly housewives wearing twinset and pearls, and flowery pinnies and the menu was Steak Diane and Black Forest Gateau.

Ooo I loved Blackadder, Red Dwarf, Thin Blue Line and reruns of Steptoe and Son on BBC2. Watched Top of the Pops every week and loved a Catherine Cookson adaptation. Also remember watching things like The Bill and A Touch of Frost. Weekends were all about Gladiators, Generation Game, Big Break and Crystal Maze. Actually I watched everything on the OP's list with the exception of My So Called Life and Dawson's Creek which somehow passed me by.

I was a child of the 80s and some of my earliest memories are of my mum watching Dallas. My favourite American show was Moonlighting (was so excited to see it land on STV recently) and towards the end of the 90s I loved Buffy.

To be honest I feel like the days must have been at least 48 hours long as it seemed like I managed to watch everything in the TV Times as well as playing outside all day.

leporello · 26/10/2025 17:54

@MoonWoman69 I'm rewatching May to December on youtube at the moment - an absolute joy, it calms me right down after a hard day. As Time Goes By is next on my list!

I loved lots and lots of things but my absolute favourite is still This Life.

wanderingtopographer · 26/10/2025 17:55

Oh and the one where they had to guess the famous phrase as an image of it was revealed square by square - Catchphrase?

Also: Strange But True, Beadles About, You've Been Framed... just everything ;-)

I still somehow have a vague awareness of the plots of current Eastenders despite not having watched it for 20 years and not actively seeking out this information, which is a bit weird.

LadyDarcy80s · 26/10/2025 17:57

MindaBelinda · 26/10/2025 18:06

Oh and the English ones like No Place Like Home, To The Manor Born, Butterflies, Brush Strokes, Three Up Two Down.

ThePineappleSeahorse · 26/10/2025 18:08

Yes to Catchphrase, 999 and Strange But True. Also unpopular opinion but I still prefer the old school Masterchef. It was very soothing and simple in a positive way and every bloody reality show/contest has to involve drama now even if it’s manufactured.

BigJanette · 26/10/2025 18:09

ALL the game shows!
