HELP! Rosacea outbreak and I’m leaving for holidays in 4 hours😕

Leaving for a sun holiday in the early hours and the tip of my nose has just broken out with the most obvious rosacea pimples. I’m gutted. They’re so unsightly.

I was only recently acknowledged as having rosacea’ and the GP gave me metronidazole which makes me look like my skin is peeling off. What can I buy in an airport chemist to help me?! I feel so self conscious.

Carry on with the gel as it'll treat the spots. If you're going to the USA or Canada, buy some Prosacea to soothe it.
Aloe vera gel will help sooth the burning.
Be careful in the sun!

The main thing you can do now is to be really careful in the sun as exposure can aggravate it. Use a high factor SPF and keep reapplying throughout the day.

When you’re back have a look at HYPO21 - it reduced my redness and acne in days and cleared it completely after about 4 weeks of use. I’d had months and months of antibiotics, every cream and face wash etc from the doctors and that was the only thing that helped.

These are great suggestions - thank you. I’ve never had such a large and instant breakout. Literally, the minute I click ‘pay’ for a long awaited and last-minute holiday, my nose glows like rudolf 😩😩😩

Super drug do a tea tree overnight jelly, that has been the best thing I have ever used on my rosacea. I have just had a quick search and Boots do something similar I reckon that you have a good chance of finding it at the airport, just make sure it has tea tree and is a gel base.

I have used prescription meds and specialist rosacea skin products, but after hearing a dermatologist on the radio saying that tea tree is effective I changed to that with the gel because it takes the redness and heat out of it.

I've just realised that I've typed all this out and you have probably done the airport already. I'll leave it here anyway incase it helps anyone else

Definitely get the rosalique to help cover the redness. My MIL has rosacea and uses this in flare up days.

Northernstar01 · 25/10/2025 07:23

Azelaic acid has sorted mine out and haven’t had a bad flare up in a couple of years. Depending on where you are going you might be able to get it without prescription from a pharmacy

A nice big hat at the airport.

Now I’m properly awake I see you were travelling in 4 hours rather than days! Have a great trip! Hope some of these suggestions are helpful in any case.

BastardtheCat · 25/10/2025 12:25

Thanks everyone. Have just arrived and I’m making notes. It seems to have calmed down a little but I think I’ll give a local pharmacy a go in search of tea tree. Failing that, a big hat - yes!

I would suggest tea tree and a big hat, because it can cause your skin to be photosensitive, so proceed with caution or apply it at bedtime. If you can only get pure tea tree oil make sure to dilute it.

A vote for azelaic acid here! Really easy to get in boots for about £10.
