British Gas cover - included boiler service

I have the home cover for everything - it includes an annual boiler service and indeed it is a condition of cover that the boiler is serviced by BG annually, however, there are no appointments at all online - nothing - not even weeks or months ahead and it tells me the best availability is online ie don't ring them.

Last year I did manage to book online in September for end of October which they then cancelled the day before and could not come to service it until January.

I thought about getting a heating plumber to do an annual service but this seems to take me outside the terms of the cover.

How to others manage this?

They seem to have too many customers with this cover to be able to provide the service - unless perhaps I want it in the summer but my policy runs annually from September and I even have a message on my account telling me it is due and to book.

Just ring them and tell them what you've said here

This is the first year I’ve had issues getting the boiler service booked in, so I don’t know what’s going on with them. I did get something booked in for earlier this month but they couldn’t make the time chosen and I had to rearrange - next appointment was about 6 weeks later.

Have tried and unfortunately have had to abandon the calls before they answered as was on hold so long

I had an engineer fitting a new boiler last week. He said the calendar function isn’t working at the moment so it’s book by calls only until it’s fixed. Sadly, you’re just going to have to keep ringing until you get through.

ah thank you that might be why - last year when they cancelled the day before I had booked the day off to wait in - am self employed teaching yoga and Pilates so also lost a couple of hundred pounds.

I was going to say that I booked an appointment on line last week for mid November, but maybe the systems gone down since then!

Call them. We had our service last week. The engineer came from out of area, he said they had done all their servicing and were helping to clear the back log in in other areas.

Last year when I booked it online they cancelled the day before and it was 3 months to get another so they seem to be overcommitted and whether you book online or in person there is a real likelihood of it being cancelled.

thank you everyone. I will try again by phone next week.

The annual service does not necessarily mean every 12 months. So you may have a policy year with no service.
