Paid for prescriptions (prepayment certificate), but not arrived.

I tried to buy a new prepayment certificate, it is needed urgently for this weekend.

I paid, but never got it emailed through like usual.

Thinking there was a mistake, I tried to buy it again, but it came up with a warning that the back button had been pressed on the payment page before and if I paid again I may get charged twice.

Checking my bank the payment is showing that NHSBSA has been paid (pending), so the payment definitely went through.

They are shut now, but I'm at a loss what to do, as the payment was successful I don't want to pay again, but I also don't want a huge fine for not having a certificate.

I've just gone through the form to check if I have an exemption certificate (as I remembered this is a way of proving it at the pharmacy), but it said I don't.

I feel really unsure to pay another £114 if the first is pending and I have no idea if it will be taken or not.

check your spam filter

I never have to show anything, the pharmacy can check I think?

TheSpottedZebra · 23/10/2025 22:15

You've checked spam folders i take it? I'd screenshot the bit that says paid, and go ahead and get your prescription. Then be ready to contest if you do get fined!

JackGeller · 23/10/2025 22:17

There is a time frame where you can claim back your prescription, you could pay for the prescription then claim it back?

Anonymousemouses · 23/10/2025 22:33

It's definitely not I the spam and when I check the form that says you have an exemption it says no records show , when I checked DH's it shows his certificate (done an hour before). So even if the pharmacy checks it will show no certificate.

I will try ringing them, although they warn they've a high number of calls.

Update

I emailed NHSBSA last night, heard nothing, so went to ring them. Before I did I double-checked my bank account to check on the status of the pending payment and to screenshot it. It was gone! Not in paid items and no longer in pending, so I guess the payment did fail? It's definitely disappeared from my bank records anyway.

So I bought a new one (after double-checking that I definitely don't have one).

I've certainly learned that when the payment page says "do not navigate away from this page, press the back button or refresh the page" it means exactly that!

Thank you all for your help

Glad you sorted this and were not double charged.
