Body Odour - how to get rid of it

NC for this because i'm quite mortified.

I'm 47 and have over the last few weeks developed BO. Not just pits but a general all over smell. I'm possibly perimenopause and the other night I was sweating that much i had to change the bed sheets. But i've noticed this smell over the last few weeks and i'm now paranoid other people can smell it and I can smell myself. Is this normal and what products can I use to get rid of it?

I generally use a scented shower gel, Dove, Palmolive, etc. I'm going to try actual soap bar when I get home.

Deodorant I normally use a dry spray, would a roll on be better and can anyone recommend one.

Any other recommendation, please help. I already have anxiety without this adding to it.

Bar soap on the pits is better than shower gel. I’ve also seen people on here talk about persimmon soap for older people; there’s some sort of compound we produce more of apparently and p-soap breaks it down?

Bar soap and exfoliating your armpits can help. So can using salicylic face wash on them. And anti bac hand gel. Basically you've got to kill the smelly bacteria, as well as getting the old deodorant off the skin - nether of which happens with shower gel.

Then use a good anti perspirant deodorant, but not the same one every day.

Bar of soap, imperial leather is good plus Sure Maximum Protection. Use a soap saver bag, couple of quid from eBay or Amazon.

Try using talcum powder

Try Mitchum roll on deodorant.

I went through a phase of being really sweaty in Peri menopause. Along with using bar soap, biological washing powder etc I also bought driclor which I found really effective. For what it’s worth, for me at least, once my hormones settled (went on hrt) the sweating resolved.

Bar soap on all smelly areas first followed by a good shower jel. Use a roll on deodrsnt and spray on top.

There was a recent thread on this. (All sorts of smells!)

persimmon soap was mentioned

i bought some on amazon. No idea about the persimmon bit (and if this one really has it) but basic soap definitely works.

I bought fussy soap only to find my pits stank within 3 days - it’s soap free soap.

so basic soap is now my go to!

WarriorN · 23/10/2025 11:36

I can use fussy deodorant if I use soap.

Thank you, I've ordered some persimmon soap and a soap saver off amazon. Also the driclor roll on deodorant
