Dd12 year 7 just told me a girl from her Primary school who shes friends with confided in her that sge wants to kill herself. Also that when she's at her dad's she doesn't have enough food. She's got a difficult family life with separated parents and step and half siblings. My dd is worried about her but doesn't want to tell anyone as her friend won't speak to her.
Im thinking of contacting MASH? Or shall I ring the school? (And her sisters school? ) I know the mum and I dont want to get directly involved or betray my dd trust .

I think this is one of those times where you need to get involved/betray trust.
You’d never forgive yourself otherwise

I’d be calling the school first thing

It’s really important you report this. I would phone Children’s Social Care but I would also contact the school. I work in Safeguarding and deal with lots of concerns like this raised from other parents. You are doing the right thing :)

Can you not speak to her mother?

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 22/10/2025 20:57

Please contact the school. They will (hopefully) know the family situation and will be able to deal with it

When something similar happened to a girl my DD knew from Primary (something online about being abused) the girl was at a different Secondary to DD so when dropping DS off at The Primary I spoke to The Head there. I knew her well and just calmly explained what DD had shared with me and said I had no idea what the real facts were. She said she would deal with it by speaking to the Safeguarding Lead at the Secondary where that girl was.
I didn't hear any more but wouldn't expect to

School, they will take it from there with safeguarding. If it's genuine measures will be taken, if fabrication this will be found out. Xx

Please do speak to the school - they will have safeguarding procedures in place.
