What kind of socks should I buy

I walk a lot during the day and now wear my walking boots everyday. Should I be getting 100% cotton socks? Also I think id benefit from some cushioning as the days I go over 15K steps my feet kinda hurt from the fabric!!!

You need proper wool walking socks. Brigdale is the brand I tend to wear, but they are a bit pricy.
Mountain Warehouse wool socks are good and a lot cheaper.
Cotton will cause blisters and are just not as good to wear if walking all day

You should really wear thin liner socks with thicker walking socks on top. This will prevent sore feet/blisters. Bridgedale do both.

Thanks everyone! I did wonder about wool sock, but thought they'd be itchy!

if anyone is still here- should the walking socks by pure wool?? Ive noticed that even the expensive ones are mixed with something synthetic.

OP posts:
redfishcat · 23/10/2025 15:31

The synthetic keeps the shape of the sock. And stops the heel wearing through too quickly.

pandptoday · 23/10/2025 16:50

So synthetic wont make them sweat more I hope

where are you walking in your hiking boots? if you're wearing them on tarmac then that's probably what's making your feet hurt as they're too stiff and rigid for such surfaces.

pandptoday · 23/10/2025 16:55

On the pavements. Should I have stuck to trainers??

OP posts:
redfishcat · 23/10/2025 17:09

I wear proper walking shoes that look like trainers when I walk on pavements, think brands like Merell, Salomon, Mountain Warehouse.
I wear walking boots when hillwalking or long walks over fields and so on

I would say yes! Boots and hiking trainers are too stiff and rigid to be walking on tarmac all the time.

Be careful I bought some walking socks, took them off and in the morning they had gone! Walked off apparently.

I daresay that there is something to akin to the 'Elephants Graveyard' somewhere, but for socks... 😳
