What nails for a senior professional job interview?

I never get my nails done. I trim them short and leave them. I have a big interview next week and want to look well put together but also very serious and professional. I have a manicure booked this weekend. What should I ask for? I literally have no idea as I have never had a manicure except on my wedding day!

round ends, not too long, nude, pale pink or classic red

MoominMai · 22/10/2025 15:55

I just give myself a home French manicure with pale pink varnish and an off white colour for the tips followed by a clear top coat. I’m very careful how I apply but because the colours are so natural, there is a small margin for error as it were which means they generally always turn out pretty good. Saves hundreds probably!

Thanks all. I know I don’t need them done and could just leave them clean and short but I just want to feel really well put together and not dowdy. Not sure why. I guess that’s the image I want to project to the panel.

I think on the advice of this thread I will go short, oval and creamy v light brown polish. I have a navy skirt suit and cream silk shirt so cream nails will go with that.

Sounds perfect. Love a navy suit. Everyone looks good in navy. Very best of luck to you.

Unless your nails look like they’d seriously impair you doing the job. Then whatever colour nails you want.

A nude gel similar to your skin tone it won't chip and will look clean and fresh. I hope you feel amazing and can walk in confident feeling your best.

This or a beige/taupe colour

coxesorangepippin · 22/10/2025 19:41

French polish, no white tips

EveryDayisFriday · 22/10/2025 19:43

Nude short almond. Nice and classic. If you want a colour I'd choose a deep wine red, smart but not too garish.

Things men never have to ask themselves.....

I've never had my nails done. As long as they are neat and clean, that's good enough. I'm regularly on interview panels and id only ever notice someone's nails if they were dirty or looked completely OTT

Exactly the same here.

Have a look at the company website and pictures of the hands of any people at your level.

I dont know if this is sarcastic or a genius suggestion 😁

Either way my nails have never featured in how I present for an interview but definitely understated I'd say

DoYouReally · 22/10/2025 20:20

Neutral so they are never noticed.

Sorry but white French tip screams nearing retirement.

I’ll tell my 24 year old professional that. I’m sure she will rush off to remove them based on your opinion 😂.

To be fair women don't have to ask themselves this either. Nails are really neither here nor there in a job interview.

I would never have my nails done for a job interview and never have. I don’t think it makes you look more professional. I always think you are the kind of person who doesn’t garden or do team sport if you have gel or polished nails. That’s about as far as it goes.

Mulberry, or dark reddish berry. Not French.

This. With nails on or just past tip of finger in length. Its a nice neutral and not over powering. No glitter or accent nails

As an allotment owner I'd say you are very wrong, gel nails are perfect for gardening as they are virtually indestructible. Can't see them being any impairment to team sports either.

@EerieDecoration Not French unless they are very short.

May I ask why no French? I WFH, so hardly anyone sees my nails, but am I making a terrible fashion faux pas? 😬

Think she just means “avoid the look in this photo” ie talon-like french nails, which look pretty tacky honestly.

Unless you’re going for a job in the beauty industry, I think that no nail polish looks the most professional. Just trim and file so that they look neat.

I've dug my friend's foot out of a hole on the side of a mountain while climbing with a gel manicure and it was totally fine. I've done all kinds of challenging and fun things with nails.

You sound deeply boring and closed minded

Lostuser · 24/10/2025 00:54

Short with clear polish in my opinion is perfect
