@Chemenger - all red herrings are rainbow red herrings, that's what makes them fun. The puzzle setters put them in to trip us up.
Otherwise it's just a wrong guess.

I think we’ll have to agree to disagree there. There are often red herrings that are not rainbows, when there are more than four words that fit a connection.

I agree. Red herrings are often two or three obvious ones that make you think you have a connection, but you waste time searching for the others.
