How can I find out if DC's GPs are still alive?

DH was NC with his parents.

I wrote to them when he died, but didn't get a response. I know they were alive shortly before that becuase they used to send DC Christmas cards, but we haven't heard anything since told them if DH's death.

It was a horrible situation, which I'm sure they blame me for, but DH was genuinely much happier once he gave up stepping on eggshells for them.

I'd like to know if DC still have GPs. And, although its very unlikely, if they (or DH) are still in their will or benefit from intestacy.

Have you googled their names / locations? Obituaries.
Do you have any mutual contacts?
Did he not have any siblings or other family?

Honestly I wouldn’t bother. Whether they’re still alive it seems clear they won’t be in your life or that of your kids.
If he was NC I can’t imagine they would leave a gift in their will.
Im very sorry for your loss OP.

No one I'm in touch with and it's a very common surname. I don't know middle names or DOBs

I know, but his mother was NC with her father and did still inherit, which she always believed was because he didn't bear her as much ill will also it appeared. I just wonder is all...

She is one of those people who can and does fall out with anyone....

I’m afraid this sounds money grabbing. If your DC will inherit then they will find out at the appropriate time.

to be honest even if you do make contact and find out if they have a will (and how even do you have that conversation? “Hi there, I know it’s been years, do you have a will in my dc’s favour?”), what is to stop them making a new will the very next day and leaving everything to donkeys?

Well, if my DC have inherited something I'd like them to have it, as I'm sure you would.

If they have, I'm not confident anyone DH's sister would tell them.

I dont want to know what the will says currently if they're still alive, but if they're deceased I'd be interested in how their estate was distributed.

Can you contact the sister?
Also your husbands birth certificate should have their full names on. You can order this for about £12 if you don’t have it.

potato08 · 20/10/2025 17:13

Their full names will be on your dhs birth cert

You can search for wills here though never used it myself.

Go on 192.com and pay to find out if they still live where you think they do. It only costs a couple of quid. Frightening really how simple it is to find someone.
