My kindle is driving me bonkers

I can't work out if its my kindle or the downloads from amazon that are the problem.
I'll download a book and one of two things may happen whilst I'm reading:
A fault occurs that requires me to remove the downloaded book and re download it. Once this starts it goes round and round several times.
If this doesn't happen then the next annoying thing is likely. I'll turn over the page only to find that it's sent me back several pages. I then get stuck in a loop of repetitive pages. Several deft manoeuvres are required to get out of it.
Both interruptions are guaranteed to make me lose the plot. Literally.
Anyone else have these problems?

Have you tried powering it off? Sounds daft I know, but over the years I’ve learnt to give it a try and it often sorts a glitchy kindle out.

Haulage · 17/10/2025 19:41

Also if it persists it might be worth contacting amazon - their kindle customer service used to be excellent although I’ve not needed to use it for a long while.

The same thing used to happen on my old Kindle. It drove me nuts. Amazon weren't much help with the tech glitches, but they did give a good discount on a new model.

I ended up buying a new Kindle, with discount, and 12 months free Kindle Unlimited.

TonTonMacoute · 17/10/2025 19:59

Which model of Kindle is it?

I find that every so often they need hard reboot.

MiceAsPie · 17/10/2025 20:08

Amazon are usually very helpful and will more than likely replace or offer a decent discount if your kindle is ancient

Interesting, i use the kindle app on my tablet and recently have had the randomly jumping to a page way ahead and not going back to the right place when i try, having to scroll back to find my page. Also sometimes just randomly flitting up and down pages on its own.

DS had a major issue with his kindle and I was about to buy another. Rang amazon customer service who were v helpful. Powered off and it’s working fine. You have to hold off button for 40 secs. Not just on/off.

Shr3dding · 18/10/2025 10:49

I've noticed mine jumping ahead a few times recently, I thought I must be leaning on it somehow but couldn't work it out.

Sounds like maybe it's a software problem then, I don't suppose we're all reading the same books

Chasingsquirrels · 18/10/2025 10:56

The discount on a new kindle is interesting.
Mine is over 10 years old, the memory is full (lots of free unread books due to Bookbub, I remove books once read) and the battery life is now rubbish.
I was going to have a new one for Christmas, so if I can get a discount on it that would be great.

Those who have had a discount, how have you contacted Amazon, which department etc?

MoveAlongNowDear · 18/10/2025 19:04

I've rebooted it and it seems to have improved. Thank you all.

I broke the screen on my old kindle and when I contacted customer services about whether it was repairable, they came straight back with a big trade in discount. This was a fair few years ago.

BoilingHotand50something · 18/10/2025 20:29

Also, I have been having error messages when downloading books but then they are there anyway. As others have said, a reboot usually sorts it.

LBOCS2 · 18/10/2025 20:33

Mine was doing that jumping forward thing. I found that if when I was downloading books, I had to leave them to download fully and almost give them a couple of seconds to ‘calibrate’ before going in, and that solved the problem. It happened on two kindles (one I bought and the replacement they sent me because of this issue!) and this was the only thing that helped.
