COVID - the worst I have ever felt

I have tested positive for Covid and feel absolutely rancid. There’s no reason for this post except to moan about it! I had a temperature of almost 41, shivers and chills, body aches, sore throat and now I’m awoken with what I assume is post nasal drip. My sinus’ are so congested and it feels like my throat is getting clogged up with mucus that won’t go down. I feel absolutely horrendous. I have had Covid before but only lost my senses and had a light cold but this is a different breedSad does anyone know a remedy for this stuck post nasal drip?

Bed rest or sofa and netflix rest.

Drink lots of water. Hot tea with lemon and honey to sooth you.

Paracetamol.

Eat lots of berries as they have been shown to be good for the immune system.

Try not to die.

MujeresLibres · 17/10/2025 07:45

Everything the previous poster said. You have my sympathy, I had it in the summer and felt awful.

JennyChawleigh · 17/10/2025 07:55

I found gargling with salt water helped with post nasal drip

-1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
-1 tablespoon of honey
-Dissolve both into a mug of hot water

It's an extraordinary drink. Blows your head off in a way, almost burns the back of your throat but feels amazing when you have a bastard cold/flu.

Enko · 17/10/2025 07:59

Chocolate eclairs.

They do nothing for covid but makes you feel like there is something good out there

daydi · 17/10/2025 14:00

Thank you all! I have spent the day in bed feeling like I’ve been punched in the face because I’ve blown my blocked up sinus and nose so much!!
I have lost my sense of smell and taste but have had some spicey veggie soup to get some good food in me and try and clear the airways. It’s horrendous!!

You poor thing. I know so many people with it at the moment, and it’s a bad one. Hope you feel better soon!

Mischance · 17/10/2025 14:15

You poor thing!

Orangemintcream · 17/10/2025 14:33

Whiskey honey Lemon and hot water.

Wont cure you but you’ll sleep better.

smallglassbottle · 17/10/2025 14:59

Mucous thinning cough syrup at the chemists will help shift and drain the mucous from sinuses and chest.

Unprecedentedusername · 17/10/2025 18:27

Wait until the digestive symptoms kick in. I’m a week in and still don’t feel right. All you can do is take paracetamol and wait for it to pass.

LoveSandbanks · 17/10/2025 18:50

You have my full sympathy. I had covid at the beginning of 2020. It was the illest I've ever been for the longest I've ever been ill. I'd been a parent for 20 years at that point and it was the only time I'd not have been capable of getting them to school (I didn't have to because they were all secondary age).

If there's a new covid going round that's as bad as that, I'm going to lock myself in the loft and get the family to push food under the door until its gone away!

Get well soon.

daydi · 17/10/2025 19:44

I feel sorry for us who are suffering and have suffered! Thank you for your advice everyone. I am drinking hot honey and lemon tea. Not much I can do to feel better at this point so trying to ride it out. My chest is very tight but just trying to stay calm and get through it

I wouldn’t test but if I felt unwell I would lie low till I was better,

If in doubt always consume cake

Definitely a good motto to live by

NoOneToCallWhenThePlaneLands · 17/10/2025 19:55

I had this a few weeks ago.

pressed on because it’s just a heavy cold. I felt like death for a week and have some lingering post nasal drip and fatigue now, but it all worked out

I second this. Best cure for cough and mucus.

KookyRoseCrab · 17/10/2025 19:57

I had it twice during the lockdown years once I was so busy my boss said go and get tested cause around 9 adults with learning disabilities had came down with it and of course i was the 10th , I was a youth worker too i had to phone my boss and sort it all out , 2nd time I tested everyday because I had too and I was Negative everyday i had a splitting sore head though and someone at work said to me watch it’s not Covid when i returned home I tested again and it was Covid . I heard it was an issue but as i said i don’t test anymore i just if I’m unwell stay at home if I’m ok to work I just wash hands and wipe nose

cityanalyst678 · 17/10/2025 20:05

It’s awful. I had it recently for the 6th time and it made me feel dreadful. But is soon over. Good luck!

Thegrassroots26 · 17/10/2025 20:06

You have my sympathies. I’m just coming through it I think after 8 days of basically being mostly bed bound and sofa bound with it. It always affects me so badly and I’ve had it every year since 2021.
Hope it passes soon - it’s utterly miserable

autumn2025 · 17/10/2025 20:08

Paracetamol and ibuprofen during the day.

Night nurse is very good too if your finding it hard to sleep it has promethazine in it which helps you relax and sleep.

For your throat boiled water honey and lemon.

I would also make sure you’re drinking enough water too.

All you can do is rest and sleep it off as such.

My brother and his partner have Covid and they have felt like this all week 😬 seems as though it’s doing its rounds.

daydi · 17/10/2025 20:14

I can’t believe how many of you have had it every year or so many times! You have my sympathies.
The tight chest lead me to full blown panic mode today and I felt I couldn’t breathe at all. It’s truly horrible. I have a toddler but she’s been with my mum as I can barely shift from the bed!!
Somehow I don’t feel sleepy despite barely sleeping last night. Think my face may be in so much pain that I just can’t. I will try night nurse, thank you.

Naanspiration · 17/10/2025 20:16

Olbas and Vicks also helps. They make you feel less bunged up but don't actually make you less bunged up.

Still pleasant to try. A little placebo.

nightmarepickle2025 · 17/10/2025 20:22

Actifed for post nasal drip

Thegrassroots26 · 17/10/2025 20:27

It’s so weird, it kind of just paralyses you! I struggle to do anything other than the bare essentials to keep the home not going to absolute chaos, then just getting in and out of bed or on and off the sofa. It’s good you’ve got help with your toddler! So difficult tending to anyone else’s needs when you feel this bad.
