COVID - the worst I have ever felt

I have tested positive for Covid and feel absolutely rancid. There’s no reason for this post except to moan about it! I had a temperature of almost 41, shivers and chills, body aches, sore throat and now I’m awoken with what I assume is post nasal drip. My sinus’ are so congested and it feels like my throat is getting clogged up with mucus that won’t go down. I feel absolutely horrendous. I have had Covid before but only lost my senses and had a light cold but this is a different breedSad does anyone know a remedy for this stuck post nasal drip?

Aww @Dockerty poor you. It’s miserable.
I think the nausea is one of the worst parts, feeling sick but also feeling hungry. I felt better when I was eating, but then awful again after. Yuck. It’s such a nasty infection.
Hope it passes quickly for you.

Dockerty · 27/10/2025 20:34

Taste and smell gone now 😞 gutted as I’ve not been able to eat all day but I was craving blueberries - so I took a load of the freezer, have just sat down to enjoy them and they don’t taste of anything 😭 it’s like eating soggy plain balls

Yes unfortunately this is standard for lots of people with Covid. It’s horrible. You think you are getting better then bam, worse again. It messes with your head big time.

Today we have sickness and diarrhoea - fanbloodytastic

i woke up so sweaty that my pyjamas were stuck to me and literally wet. Especially down my back. I got up to make a coffee and get some paracetamol only to discover that it was 3:30am 😭

Oh god, poor you. It’s just a carousel of hideous symptoms - it’s bloody relentless.
after a much better day yesterday I feel horrible this morning. Barely slept too which I don’t think has helped. 🍇 🌺 ☕️ to all x

Order a neti bottle and the salt solutions. Less than a tenner from amazon. Flush your sinuses a couple of times a day. Bit of a learning curve, you have to lean over way more than you'd think but it clears your sinuses out completely.

Heard about those but never done it. Sounds good. Blocked sinus is a big part of the issue for me I think.

Hey all, how is everyone doing? I’m not sure how far in to this current bout I am, it could be 2-3 weeks, I’ve been so up and down.

I’ve had lateral flow test issues, I wondered if anyone has experienced this: 9 days ago, I tested positive with Silex brand, 4 times in 2 days (yes, I’m
obssessive… I was trying to work out if the feint lines meant early or late stage). DH tested negative with the remaining test out of the box. On day 2, I tested negative with a flowflex test. From then until earlier today, I had 5 further flowflex negatives. Tonight, silex positive and flowflex negative, taken back to back (call it research 😳). I am feeling really unwell, last night I was scared I might not wake up if I went to sleep. Do I have Covid, or something else? I’m
pretty sure it IS Covid, based on previous infections. What is going on with these tests? They were all in date. I just wondered if anyone else has experienced conflicting results like this.

i understand that some people don’t see the point of testing, but I have a very vulnerable mum. I have, of course, avoided contact with people anyway.

CherryBlossom321 · 29/10/2025 22:04

I’m nearly 6 weeks in and had to see the GP today as I was feeling worse by the day. It’s turned into a secondary bacterial infection and I have a nasty staphylococcus infection inside my nose which made it almost impossible to breathe. Started on strong antibiotics and ointment today. Can’t wait to feel human again. I seemed to initially recover after two weeks and then all the symptoms came back with a vengeance.

Delatron · 29/10/2025 22:43

I think that’s one of the main features of Covid - it’s not a linear recovery. You feel better then worse and repeat. Which also messes with your mind. It really is an awful virus.

Hi! I have heard that this new strain isn’t picked up on all tests..not sure if it’s true but I heard that from 2 paramedics and online so good sources to hear it from!

I hope that everybody is doing okay. Day 15 for me and thankfully I am pretty much back to normal. My nose still isn’t 100% and I get exhausted easily still but everything else seems to have improved massively.

What an awful illness Sad I am terrified to get it ever again. I genuinely thought I wouldn’t make it through the night sometimes! There were occasions where I had such a bad chest that I couldn’t speak and it was just terrifying.

I hope everyone is okay, you will get through it and back to normal again xx

Thank you for this. I’m don’t know why I’m stressing about it 🤷‍♀️

I feel awful this morning

Has anyone started to feel better only to relapse? Started feeling unwell last Wednesday. Tested late Thursday evening was a very strong positive. Friday and Saturday also strong positives. Weirdly on Sunday the line was barely there. Negative test Monday/Tuesday. Felt a lot better overall except for tiredness. Woke up today feeling awful again. Headcold type symptoms and feel absolutely wiped out.

Yes. I felt just a bit unwell for a week or so before I thought to test (feint positive on one brand of test, negative on another). I didn’t feel too bad at all within a few days of that, then Tuesday night (8 days after the feint positive) it hit me HARD. Can’t keep my temperature under 38, everything hurts, coughing… I feel really poorly. I hope you feel better soon 🔜

OhCrumbs90 · 30/10/2025 17:54

Ended up at the gp today for bloods/ecg at heart rate keeps spiking. Walking up the stairs is sending it up to 135, same as showering etc. Even at rest it's going above 100 frequently. Experiencing SOB and palpitations too. GP said I've a bit of a temp which could be causing it. The head cold feeling is getting worse, pain behind eyes and in teeth too. Probably feel worse now than when I did when I was testing positive. My GP seems to think I've just been unlucky and caught another virus but I suspect it's rebound covid.

Delatron · 30/10/2025 18:39

Covid does affect the heart rate. Hopefully it will settle down. It’s really common unfortunately and can happen months after the initial infection.

I’ve ended up on medication to bring it down.

Oh gosh, that must've been quite bad if you ended up on medication. How long after initial positive test did you have the heart problems? I only tested positive last Thursday. As you said upthread, it's definitely not a linear recovery. Felt fine(ish) the past few days and it's returned with a vengeance!

Yes it was last year I had the initial infection. i think I popped on to this thread to slightly warn people to take it easy if they have Covid. It can be nasty and long lasting. Definitely not just a cold.

Lurkingforalaugh · 31/10/2025 22:48

Out of interest why did you test? I work in a hospital and am not required to test just use common sense, if you’re ill hand wash wear a mask etc u til u feel better, it may be cold, flu, maybe covid. I can say I’ve ‘never’ had covid! But then again I haven’t tested so maybe a cold i thought I had I had was Covid but why did I need to test as there’s no point 🤷‍♀️

TheGrimSmile · 31/10/2025 23:04

Thegrassroots26 · 22/10/2025 14:19

Yep. Always get this with Covid. Reminds me a lot of having hyperemesis during pregnancy. Horrid.

Yes, I've had everything but feeling like I've got constant morning sickness is the worst and not being able to drink tea or coffee.

I only tested as I was getting a burning sensation down my legs. The only time I've had that before was with covid/flu. I just so happened to have tests at home as DP ordered some a few weeks ago due to losing his taste/smell. So I tested and it was positive straight away. I understand the guidelines don't really advise testing anymore but I feel this is disingenuous and sweeping the issue under the carpet. Yes for some people covid is a mild cold or entirely asymptomatic, but for lots of people it's not. Then there's the very real risk of long covid post infection which can be life altering. I tested positive last Thursday, didn't feel great but was a lot better by Monday. Yesterday I took unwell again, high pulse (nearly 140 after a quick shower), really short of breath, pains starting up in legs and chest again. Bloods were taken and showed high WBC so I'm on antibiotics now. I've never relapsed like this from colds/influenza before. Of course these can also cause post virall issues, but nowhere near as much as covid. Do I think we need to stop the world again and shut up shop? No. But I think we need to acknowledge it's rife again and take sensible precautions. Not testing doesn't mean it's not there.

Surely if you work in a hospital you know people test for different reasons?
my dad tests as I’m immunocompromised
I test because I can get anti virals and I need to tell my consultant if I test positive
the staff at hospital tested after an operation for me as I was being reverse barrier nursed

Lurkingforalaugh · 01/11/2025 11:09

This is why I asked why did they test? Is there a specific reason they were advised to or is it a case of wanting to? It still boggles my brain that people are testing because they feel poorly, and not just in very specific circumstances as your own and I genuinely wonder why 🤷‍♀️ we are all encouraged through work to vaccinate against flu however not covid, something to think about 🤔
