COVID - the worst I have ever felt

I have tested positive for Covid and feel absolutely rancid. There’s no reason for this post except to moan about it! I had a temperature of almost 41, shivers and chills, body aches, sore throat and now I’m awoken with what I assume is post nasal drip. My sinus’ are so congested and it feels like my throat is getting clogged up with mucus that won’t go down. I feel absolutely horrendous. I have had Covid before but only lost my senses and had a light cold but this is a different breedSad does anyone know a remedy for this stuck post nasal drip?

I can’t believe how many of you have had it every year or so many times! You have my sympathies.
The tight chest lead me to full blown panic mode today and I felt I couldn’t breathe at all. It’s truly horrible. I have a toddler but she’s been with my mum as I can barely shift from the bed!!
Somehow I don’t feel sleepy despite barely sleeping last night. Think my face may be in so much pain that I just can’t. I will try night nurse, thank you.

Run a hot bath, as hot as you can stand it. Get the air in the bathroom full of steam. Get a jug of boiling water and put Vicks vapour rub in it. It’ll melt and infuse the air.

you can reuse that same Vicks as many times as you need to. Let the water go cold and it’ll set in a layer on top, poke a hole in it and empty the water out. Pour boiling water over the top of it and reuse. Sit in the bath for at least half an hour

-1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
-1 tablespoon of honey
-Dissolve both into a mug of hot water

It's an extraordinary drink. Blows your head off in a way, almost burns the back of your throat but feels amazing when you have a bastard cold/flu.

There are variations on this one - try adding fresh ginger and black pepper too. Tastes absolutely vile but it does help to clear your head. You can hear and feel the mucus shifting and loosening, and “blows your head off” is an apt description.

I know someone who had it recently and was bed bound for 3 days (older lady). She is better now but it took a month. Hopefully you’ll feel better in a few days.
ive had it 4 x now but not for over a year so I’m probably due a dose!!

Does this start as a chesty cough? I don’t have any Covid tests to check but whatever I have it started with a cough settling in my chest within hours. Feeling very tired and my ears are itching. Aches and pains all up my back.
DH is 60 next weekend and we have so many plans for the upcoming week. Typical

Cece92 · 17/10/2025 20:57

I’ve currently come down with something over night. I feel it could be a heavy cold my my sinuses are super congested can’t taste or smell and my nose is dripping which is weird I’ve never had that before. I’ve had a bad stomach this week and reading this thread makes me think is it Covid xx

FuzzyWolf · 17/10/2025 20:57

I hope you feel much better very soon.

Spicedpear · 17/10/2025 20:58

I thought on day 4 I was getting over it but day 5 & the fatigue is unreal. Is my first time having it so unsure what to expect. But going nowhere fast that’s for sure.

martha79 · 17/10/2025 21:03

I'm just emerging from two weeks of this - including a day when I really felt like breathing was a struggle, so very much sympathise with your panic over that. Lemsip has helped the sinuses, and inhaling steam (alternated putting a little bit of Vicks and Tiger Balm in the water which seemed to help when I was having the "things smell weird" effect). Otherwise just loads of sleep. Hope it passes soon for you.

This time mine began with a sore throat.. other times my glands in my neck have come up.

I had the weird drippy nose thing at the start too… what a weird flipping virus it is.

Sore throat, body aches and temperature here, but my GP said it's showing up quite differently in different people at the moment.

It’s such a weird one in that I find I feel ok the first few days, and then I get much worse, whereas with normal colds etc you feel the worse to begin with and gradually get better. It sort of has this reverse psychology about it! Horrible and really messes with your head in more ways than one.

Whyjustwhy83 · 17/10/2025 21:07

I currently have COVID too and somehow don't feel too bad. I had a bug 2 weeks ago and felt worse and pneumonia not long ago and also felt worse then. If I hadn't been tested for it I wouldn't have thought I had it, my only real symptom is a cough. I've had no temps, I have pluerisy pain but that has lingered since the pneumonia. It has flared up but still not as bad as when I had pneumonia, I think I've been lucky to not feel too bad.

Body aches have been very strong this time I think. Felt very fluey, but I know it’s not flu as that completely wipes you out on another level so I’ve heard.

lol I know I’ve never had that before with a cold my nose it’s literally like a tap and it’s going down the back of my throat aswell which is annoying. I’ve got some Vicks and night time cold and flu tablets for bed and a box of tissues. X

mamaison · 17/10/2025 21:08

Had it last week of August and was horrendous! I could not do anything for a week and could not even enjoy being bed bound as felt so horrible.

Sending sympathy.

daydi · 17/10/2025 21:14

Mine started with a mild sore throat and then three days ago I came home from work and could barely move after I sat down! I then had a temperature of 40 degrees and the next day came the dreaded sinus blockage. Last night I hardly slept due to all the mucus dripping down my throat. I sat in the bathroom with the shower steaming the room up for ages and with my head under a towel steaming my face in bed!!!
I have found that trying not to cough so much has helped the pains in my throat and chest. I can’t sleep due to the pain and anxiety so not really recovering.

i hope all of you suffering feel better soon Flowers

I'm sure I''ve had it last week too. This is about the 8th time for me (primary school staff, we have no chance, Surrounded by unvaccinated snotty and coughing kids who catch everything and pass it on to us staff who aren't entitled to either a COVID booster, or to wear a mask, and your absence from work is going to be complained about more than you passing it on to other staff. 🙄so you just come in and feel like shit instead all week, shedding the virus as you go ).

Almost feels like you're drowning with the mucous in the throat. Starts with a hoarse voice. Then the next thing you feel like you're choking. I just sip water to try to thin it and sometimes (sorry) spit out the thicker saliva into a tissue.

This time round I also got heart palpitations and high heart rate when I first started with it in the night (woke up sweating). Was exactly like some of the other times I tested positive, and also like when I had a bad reaction to my first COVID jab with similar effect on my heart and temp). After a few days it seems the virus decided to move from my throat and set up home in the top part of my stomach where it gave me gripey pains, and then I had horrible diarrhoea.

Was just starting to feel a bit better this week with all symptom gone except a lingering fatigue, then my nose started running again today, I feel rubbish and I can't get warm even though I'm in loads of layers.

The first bit of illness was deffo COVID. I didn't even bother testing, I'm just so famliar with the symptoms now - they are slightly different to a cold (and I feel worse with it).

I THINK thing I've just started with is just a cold now, and wonder if my immune system just wasn't fully recovered after the COVID. At least I hope it's a cold. I hope it's not a type of strain that almost goes away but just likes dormant ready to flare up again when you're run down....

Wait until the digestive symptoms kick in. I’m a week in and still don’t feel right. All you can do is take paracetamol and wait for it to pass.

Oh is it a thing that the digestive symptoms start a few days in then?

PigglyWigglyOhYeah · 17/10/2025 21:28

Drink lots of water. Steam inhalation (my mother's cure for everything). Boil the kettle and pour the water into a decent sized bowl (I use the cake mixing bowl). Put the bowl on the table. Sit down. Position your face over the bowl and drape a towel over your head to create a sort of tent to trap the steam. Breathe deeply and steadily. If you get way too warm, pop your head out for air. Great for coughs, colds, sinus issues and lovely for your skin. Some fancy folk put Vicks or Olbas Oil in, but it's not needed. It's the steam that does it.

As a PP suggested, follow treatment with a chocolate éclair or similar.

Hope you feel better soon. This variant is bloody awful. I'm four weeks in and only just starting to feel like I'm recovering now. I still have a lingering cough but it's gradually improving.

I found sinutab the most helpful for the congestion.

LindorDoubleChoc · 17/10/2025 21:32

Poor you.

KookyRoseCrab · 17/10/2025 21:36

I know a family of 3 that’s just recovered, didn’t test but 2 off them were unwell for a month the daughter got let of lighter , I said to husband I bet they have had Covid by sounds of it

daydi · 17/10/2025 21:37

Are boosters still a thing? I’d like to never have this again!! I had norovirus two years ago and it was more pleasant than this
