COVID - the worst I have ever felt

I have tested positive for Covid and feel absolutely rancid. There’s no reason for this post except to moan about it! I had a temperature of almost 41, shivers and chills, body aches, sore throat and now I’m awoken with what I assume is post nasal drip. My sinus’ are so congested and it feels like my throat is getting clogged up with mucus that won’t go down. I feel absolutely horrendous. I have had Covid before but only lost my senses and had a light cold but this is a different breedSad does anyone know a remedy for this stuck post nasal drip?

Hi all. I thought I had turned a corner but I feel completely terrible again. My throat feels so dry that it feels tight. I have terrible anxiety that I am dying and it is awful. I hope everyone’s okay. I ate McDonald’s and I think it made the situation much worse!!

Sorry to hear that. I’ve had two pretty bad days now. I wouldn’t beat yourself up over the McDs. I’m not sure that you have a lot of control over the symptoms with covid. It does its thing and you are just along for the ride.

I’ve had it too. Have been negative for a couple of weeks now but still feel horrific. I’m constantly exhausted. It’s rough as anything.

Makes me laugh now when I think of all the talk about herd immunity during the lockdowns. i don't think there's any such thing with Covid.

No there isn’t. So I do think we all need to take Covid seriously- as we can see on here people are knocked out of weeks. It’s constantly circulating and we are are not getting any long lasting immunity.

I was left with post viral syndrome/long Covid after a relatively mild infection last year. I still can’t do what I used to be able to do. I’m terrified of getting g it again. With each infection the risk of long Covid goes up. It’s a dire situation but I’m not sure what the answer is.

People need to stay home if they’re ill and then I guess we all just need to pay for private vaccinations every year. I’m hoping the vaccine will improve.

Still it’s around 6-10% chance of long Covid with each infection and that increases every time you catch Covid.

Try and eat better. The food you eat and the performance of your immune system are directly related.

Get some good food in you. Soups, lots of fruit, whichever meals you enjoy that are high in vegetable content.

Beans on toast!

How’s everyone carrying on with work? Feel silly for not going in for what is now considered a bad cold.

CarrierbagsAndPJs · 20/10/2025 07:33

Im at the doctors (for something unrelated) this morning then in to work. I really dont think i have the energy to deal with it. Im getting dizzy when i move my head.

ImSoJulia · 20/10/2025 07:40

19yo DS has it (3rd time). He's never had bad sinuses before but it's making him miserable. His eyes and cheeks are painful.

-1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
-1 tablespoon of honey
-Dissolve both into a mug of hot water

It's an extraordinary drink. Blows your head off in a way, almost burns the back of your throat but feels amazing when you have a bastard cold/flu.

Does it matter which Apple Cider Vinegar?

tesco own cider vinegar
aspall organic cyder (?) vinegar
aspall organic raw apple cyder(?) vinegar

just doing online shop.

Last bottle got thrown out when it lingered in the cupboard long past its used by date!

There are variations on this one - try adding fresh ginger and black pepper too. Tastes absolutely vile but it does help to clear your head. You can hear and feel the mucus shifting and loosening, and “blows your head off” is an apt description.

Daft question, but is fresh ginger ok if you freeze a chunk?

AutumnCosy2025 · 20/10/2025 08:16

This is the first time I haven't qualified for the vax, but I am even more vulnerable now as on top of everything else I've had a stroke. I'm really unwell with the medication I'm now on & scared of getting Covid.

im temped to get the vax privately, but the people I know that have had it this autumn have all been really unwell after it, so I'm very wary. (I don't understand why either as it's not a live vaccine) but they're not known to each other & all reporting the same things??

I have had it together with the flu vax and was absolutely fine apart from a sore, red arm for about 3 days. I am eligible for it due to an existing condition, but I am trying to persuade DH to get it privately because I am worried about how ill he might be if he gets covid.

daydi · 20/10/2025 10:43

How’s everyone doing today?
I am feeling better than yesterday morning but I don’t trust that it’ll stay that way! I woke up in the night coughing and only got 2 hours sleep so feeling exhausted still. Taste buds are very off as I was nearly sick at how salty my buttered toast tasted!!

This thread has stressed me out so much I’ve booked a private booster (£75). The couple of times I’ve had it it’s been unpleasant but not like what you’re all describing.

Feel better all!

Money well spent. Honestly. Don't regret it.

martha79 · 20/10/2025 11:11

Tested negative at the end of last week but I'm still absolutely wiped out, and now into my third week off work. Still a bit sniffly and sinusy but it's mainly feeling exhausted, wobbly and anxious 😕

Sorry you're still feeling rough. The taste thing is so weird, isn't it? Bread tastes vinegary/ chemically to me at the moment.

BlackeyedSusan · 20/10/2025 11:14

AHH fuck.

Thanks for the thread. I probably have covid.

Taste and smell went funny with cold like symptoms two weeks ago. Recovered a bit but then got temperature chills, sinussy gunky post nasal, sore throat returned , diarrhoea, nausea, cough. Was more or less better apart from the cough and then had flu vaccination.

I would think so. But as ginger seems to lose a bit of its potency frozen, I’d use fresh if available. Dried powdered would do at a push, after all if you’ve got covid you’re not going to want to nip out to the shops are you?
My husband gets free Covid jabs due to health conditions, and he was offered one back in Spring. I think maybe the jabs immunity only lasts 6 months. Anyway he took them up on it and had the jab, and I paid for mine at a pharmacy, doctor wasn’t offering it to me and I’m 70 with coronary heart disease. Same this Autumn, husband free, but I had to pay. If the virus is as bad as people are saying, in that it lays you flat for weeks and not just days, it is a false economy to restrict the free jabs. I’m lucky that I can afford to pay. I worry about how I would fare if I caught Covid, so far haven’t knowingly had it but since 2019 have had some mighty odd side effects with “regular” colds, and doubtless I would cost the NHS a lot more than the £100 I paid per jab I did catch it.

Spicedpear · 20/10/2025 12:36

I think it’s shocking how COVID’s being minimised & equated to having a cold. It’s much more debilitating & if I was immunocompromised or had other health conditions I’d definitely get myself the vaccine (despite its cost). I’m recovering from cancer but not deemed eligible. I’d be terrified of getting it with another health problem. I do have CFS/Fibromyalgia & just praying I don’t get Long Covid on top. Sympathy to all still suffering - I think I’m making headway but have thought this before 🤞

i was wondering about the ginger as i just happen to have a huge one at the moment. I don't often buy it but wanted to make some Dahl so thought I'd get it fresh. I'll freeze some, I'd probably end up giving it to my neighbour otherwise as I'll never use thus much 😂😂

it's annoying, some surgeries seem to order loads & have a 'just ask' if you want it. Mine is only ordering it exactly per person.

I'll look into getting it privately I think. It's expensive & I had to stop working due to the stroke & not sure I'll ever be able to work again so money is an issue (only 55) but worth it if it helps reduce the illness if I get it. I'm akready struggling with my health day to day.

I hope you stay well 💕

QforCucumber · 20/10/2025 13:10

it lasted about 5/6 days for me, started Monday last week and only feel back to normal today.

Stomach problems, temp like you OP but OMG this time - the insomnia, I don't think I could fall asleep for 3 nights, yet was exhausted. The kids have both been hit but not as bad as i was, hoping DH manages to avoid it completely.

Cloud44 · 20/10/2025 15:33

Were you able to keep working @QforCucumber ?

QforCucumber · 20/10/2025 15:39

I stayed away from the office on Thursday last week and spent most of the day on and off the sofa, worked from home the Friday and then the saturday was a quiet day at home
