COVID - the worst I have ever felt

I have tested positive for Covid and feel absolutely rancid. There’s no reason for this post except to moan about it! I had a temperature of almost 41, shivers and chills, body aches, sore throat and now I’m awoken with what I assume is post nasal drip. My sinus’ are so congested and it feels like my throat is getting clogged up with mucus that won’t go down. I feel absolutely horrendous. I have had Covid before but only lost my senses and had a light cold but this is a different breedSad does anyone know a remedy for this stuck post nasal drip?

What day are you on @daydi ? Sorry to hear you feel worse today. Fingers crossed we all feel better soon.

On day 7 today. Have definitely turned a corner the past couple of days but I don’t trust it overly much!

Is everyone trying to work with it or having to take time off?

I've been off, couldn't have stayed awake long enough, never mind concentrated!

LemonLeaves · 23/10/2025 08:00

I worked through it but I didn't realise it was COVID until the end of the first week. By the time I'd tested and realised, I didn't feel I could be off the following week. I wish I'd thought to test at the start, as I would have called off.

I'm now at week six. Slight cough still about, oddly it's now only after I've eaten. Sense of smell is a bit hit and miss but I have some. Energy levels have started to recover in the last week. However I have the most awful insomnia - which is something I have never previously struggled with.

The way I knew it was Covid is the insomnia- that’s what so contradictory about it. You’re fatigued but can’t sleep.

It's absolutely kicking my arse. Even on the nights where I do sleep, it doesn't feel like I properly get to sleep. I seem to doze instead and be constantly waking up.

I have all of this but testing negative on new LFT’s.

Are the tests not picking all cases up?

My DD is an ITU doctor, the test we are using, the over the counter ones are not picking it up. This years strain has changed and is bypassing the old tests. She tested negative using an old test, then a very clear positive using a new test that ICU are now using. Once she tested positive, she was sent home, and didn’t return until she was negative using the new test. She actually felt ok, but the effect on her patients could have been catastrophic. It’s a nasty strain. I hope you feel better soon x

LemonLeaves · 24/10/2025 07:25

It might depend on what type of old test - didn't they have a few different ones? Can't remember! But I tested using an old LFT and it was positive, same for my DH.

OhCrumbs90 · 24/10/2025 08:42

Just tested positive yesterday. Woke with a sore throat, runny nose on Wednesday. Also had terrible shooting pains in my top teeth but had attributed that to a TMJ flare up. Went to work yesterday, the skin on the back of my legs/bottom was sore, nearly like a shingles/sunburn tyoe feeling. Dry cough and just generally feeling rubbish. Tested late last might and a strong positive. Wouldn't normally test for "head cold" type symptoms but the feeling in my legs set my spider senses off that it was covid. No temperature though surprisingly as the previous times I've had covid I had a temp.

QueenStevie · 24/10/2025 11:07

I have it too. Have battled on all week but am now dizzy and lightheaded so haven't been able to go to work today. The dry cough is horrendous.

daydi · 24/10/2025 17:26

Hi everyone! How are we all?
I woke up feeling exhausted again today which I found very frustrating but I did walk about 45 minutes yesterday along with school pick up etc. so it makes sense I suppose! Annoyingly I repeated my behaviour today and now feel worse..I didn’t realise how much rest the body needed! I’m concerned it’ll last for weeks. My eyes are sore again and I’m so tired. Sore throat and cough still kicking around too. Apart from that and a tight chest I’m feeling a lot better.

Chatting to you all on this thread helped throughout so thank you to all!!

Please prioritise rest.

I think one of the reasons more women get long covid than men is that we push through and do too much when ill. Men are more likely to take to their beds!

OhCrumbs90 · 24/10/2025 18:22

Has anyone been having pain in the back of the legs? I keep getting pains in both legs but mostly a pain behind my right knee. It had started off higher up yesterday but has moved down to the knee now

chocolateisnecessary · 24/10/2025 18:23

Absolutely shattered today.

Thegrassroots26 · 24/10/2025 19:50

Just popped on to say: Covid suuuccckks!

That feels better. Genuinely it is awful. I’m two weeks in and I still feel bad. Not post viral fatigue bad, but still feel like there’s an active infection bad. I hate it and I want to go back to feeling like a normal, functioning human please 🙏 whatever I did in a past life, Covid needs to get over it and stop punishing me 😭

Cloud44 · 25/10/2025 12:26

Day 7 for me and I feel shattered today!

Thegrassroots26 · 25/10/2025 14:48

Sorry to hear that @Cloud44
It’s so rubbish isn’t it? Hope you feel better soon.
I’m day 15 I think. Managed to stay mostly upright today and even managed a short walk, so that’s big for me. Not much energy left now though. I hate how it drags on and on. A very successful virus is Covid.

Dockerty · 25/10/2025 23:06

Just found this thread. I think I might have Covid.
Yesterday I had an issue getting warm, just felt freezing all day - also noticed that my legs ached every time I went upstairs.
This morning woke up with a weird stomach - felt desperate for a poo but everytime I tried little bits of diarrhoea came out.
Bit of a cough and sore throat started at lunch time, sneezing, stabbing pains in the eyes, upper back pain, tooth/gum pain, weird tingly pain in both legs … very tired.

I had such bad leg and hip pains - I had a few twinges (from running) previously but the virus seemed to aggravate everything.

Three weeks after it all started and I'm still having to take it easy - yesterday I felt much better but hit a wall of tiredness about 6pm and had to just go to bed.

chocolateisnecessary · 26/10/2025 08:01

I slept for nine hours. I hit the same wall last night around 8. Going to attempt a GP appt this week.

Definitely sounds like covid. Pretty much exactly how mines started. It was the sore/tingly legs (felt like shingles) that made me test as I knew it wasn't a head cold but it wasn't as bad as influenza (which comes on extremely quickly and violently). The test lit on straight away. My symptoms started on Wednesday morning and I tested Thursday evening. Don't have the leg pain anymore but voice is still hoarse and I feel exhausted. Still have my sense of taste/smell but food does taste a bit strange. My fear is long covid so just trying to rest as much as possible

OhCrumbs90 · 26/10/2025 09:50

Weirdly I've had blazing positives up until today. Tested again this morning and it was a very, very faint positive. Going by the previous tests I thought it would be at least another 4/5 days before I got my negative. Not that I'm complaining but it's just strange how it was such a strong positive yesterday and nearly impercible now. I'm still going to rest until I feel better though as long covid is a very real risk. I have been taking vicks first defence since Wednesday though (swear by it) so I'm wondering if that has something to do with it

Cloud44 · 26/10/2025 15:49

Does anyone know which is better in general this time of year Vicks first defence or boots dual defence? In terms of using when you catch something like Covid and to prevent catching general colds in the first place? I also get concerned about long Covid. For those still shattered are you managing to work and rest whenever you aren’t at work? I don’t know how to get the best balance!

Delatron · 26/10/2025 16:48

I think First Defence and the Boots one are pretty similar. I find First Defence so stingy that I then avoid using it so my preference is the Boots one.

I use it when I go out in groups indoors or in public transport then afterwards. Then also if I feel like I’m coming down with something.

Dockerty · 27/10/2025 12:27

I feel so ill now. I’m so cold I’ve got the heating on full and I’m laid on the sofa in long pjs, fluffy socks, a fluffy dressing gown and a thick blanket and I still can’t stop shivering.

Everytime I eat I feel full/nauseous after one bite, everytime I drink anything I get instant heart burn feeling. Very snotty
