COVID - the worst I have ever felt

daydi · 17/10/2025 03:37

I have tested positive for Covid and feel absolutely rancid. There’s no reason for this post except to moan about it! I had a temperature of almost 41, shivers and chills, body aches, sore throat and now I’m awoken with what I assume is post nasal drip. My sinus’ are so congested and it feels like my throat is getting clogged up with mucus that won’t go down. I feel absolutely horrendous. I have had Covid before but only lost my senses and had a light cold but this is a different breedSad does anyone know a remedy for this stuck post nasal drip?

Yes! I think I've got it for thr first time, I've been so ill for 2 weeks. Started out as a cough, shortness of breath, burning lungs, overwhelming fatigue...after 1 week felt like i was getting better then bam, round 2....this time chesty cough, cold, migraine, heart palpitations. It's awful and shows no sign of shifting.

KookyRoseCrab · 17/10/2025 21:44

It’s £90 for a Covid vaccine. Only over 75s eligible this winter….

Thegrassroots26 · 17/10/2025 21:46

Bit late for us now anyway… we will have natural immunity. Lucky us!

BloodandGlitter · 17/10/2025 22:06

The digestive issues kicked in around a week in for me and DH then they randomly popped up for an extra day or two at day 10. Day 14 here and it's the first day I haven't needed to use my blue inhaler. Tried walking to Tesco (5 minutes away) on day 12 and honestly scared myself with how hard it was to breathe.

Greedybilly · 17/10/2025 22:13

I hear you OP. I have had long covid for 6 months or more. It's torture. Rest up and Get well soon.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 17/10/2025 22:16

A nasal rinse clears all the snot from your sinuses for a while which stops the post nasal drip.

MakeOrBake · 17/10/2025 22:18

Post-nasal drip is just horrible and takes bloody ages to clear up.

I was describing my symptoms to a friend the other day - I sound awful and she asked - and we were both a bit shocked by the post-nasal drip thing.

Her, because she didn't know this was a thing at all. Has never suffered with any sinus issues. Ever.

Me, because she has never had sinus issues or a post-nasal drip in her life. Ever. I tend to suffer a lot of sinus yuckiness, but thought everyone had it from time-to-time. I'm jealous.

Feel better soon OP.

Lanva · 17/10/2025 22:22

Get a neti pot. I just cleared my sinuses of absolutely choking glue. It's such an incredible relief.

It’s such a weird one in that I find I feel ok the first few days, and then I get much worse, whereas with normal colds etc you feel the worse to begin with and gradually get better. It sort of has this reverse psychology about it! Horrible and really messes with your head in more ways than one.

I think I remember thst being that was one of the common characteristics of early covid, where things sometimes got worse after a week or so of gradually improving

Oakcone · 17/10/2025 22:27

Ginger and cinnamon in hot water -
1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 cinnamon stick
1 cup hot water
1-2 cloves (optional)
1-2 slices of lemon for garnish

(Or just ginger and cinnamon if you can't be arsed with the faff).

Instructions:

Prepare the tea base: In a mug, combine the grated ginger, honey, lemon juice, cinnamon stick, and cloves (if using).
Add hot water: Pour hot water over the ingredients and stir until the honey is dissolved.
Steep: Let the tea steep for 5-10 minutes, depending on how strong you like it.
Serve: Remove the cinnamon stick and cloves, and garnish with lemon slices. Drink while warm.

You can get a covid vaccine booster but it costs £90 ( unless you are on vulnerable list and qualify for an NHS one). I refused to pay that last year but was so ill with covid last year that I've paid for the Pfizer one this year as well as the flu one . I always get a flu jab every year nowadays. At least the flu one only cost £20

Yes it def feels a bit back to front - I thought the worst was behind me - not so sure now!
Hope you feel better soon.

CandidRobin · 17/10/2025 22:33

I was the same earlier this year. It was the worst I'd ever experienced and I've had all the boosters. I had really bad post viral fatigue for the first time too. I hope you feel better soon.

Same for me! Really bad cough/throat 2wks ago and now turned into a nasty cold. Had this for a week now and still blocked:( no senses either.

@op when did your senses return last time? So unsettled by this 😭

Marmalade71 · 18/10/2025 06:42

This thread has stressed me out so much I’ve booked a private booster (£75). The couple of times I’ve had it it’s been unpleasant but not like what you’re all describing.

Feel better all!

micromartha · 18/10/2025 06:51

Covid is awful, I've had it at least 3 times now, and now any sign of viral infection I get post covid fatigue which knocks me out for weeks.

All you can do is rest when you are ill, which is always harder when you have young kids. Once you recover keep adding immune boosting things to your life. I always start with a glass of squeezed orange juice laced with turmeric. I'm always reading about and looking to add more immune boosting things. I used to take turmeric tablets but I heard they don't absorb so well, so I keep is simple with the juice mix.

Hope you feel better soon.

Pricelessadvice · 18/10/2025 06:56

I hope you feel better soon.

I lost all sense of spatial awareness when I had Covid and reversed into my dad’s vehicle. I really wasn’t safe to drive, looking back. I felt so detached from reality.
Weird virus.

daydi · 18/10/2025 08:04

@Ruggyleaf I hate to say it but it took perhaps a month or more for my senses to return! The worst part was all I could smell was dog poo..!! It was like the smell was permanently trapped in my nose. My mum had the same but with garlic. Have you got that at all or is it just nothing? I hope you feel better soon x

Yes, but only a very limited number of people get the free NHS one. I had such a miserable time with Covid last year I’ve paid £95 for a booster vaccination this year!

Hope you feel better soon

Ruggyleaf · 18/10/2025 08:31

@daydi I have absolutely nothing at all. How are you this morning?

daydi · 18/10/2025 08:49

@Ruggyleafoh poor you, that must be horrible for you. I find it so strange how it can wipe your senses completely! Also how it can mess with your mind. I’ve been feeling very very confused and disorientated.

I managed to sleep for a few hours last night which was good. I feel very bunged up still and chest not great. I think my sinus being blocked is making everything feel 10x worse. My muscles feel weak and fatigued today Sad really hoping this is the worst of it

I feel shit this morning. Managed a shower and parked myself on the sofa, but feel really not good. I’m so fed up now and wishing I had just paid £90. I probably still would’ve caught it though working in a germy school. 😞

daydi · 18/10/2025 09:25

An upset stomach too today just to top it off! My body is so weak
