COVID - the worst I have ever felt

I have tested positive for Covid and feel absolutely rancid. There’s no reason for this post except to moan about it! I had a temperature of almost 41, shivers and chills, body aches, sore throat and now I’m awoken with what I assume is post nasal drip. My sinus’ are so congested and it feels like my throat is getting clogged up with mucus that won’t go down. I feel absolutely horrendous. I have had Covid before but only lost my senses and had a light cold but this is a different breedSad does anyone know a remedy for this stuck post nasal drip?

This is the first time I haven't qualified for the vax, but I am even more vulnerable now as on top of everything else I've had a stroke. I'm really unwell with the medication I'm now on & scared of getting Covid.

im temped to get the vax privately, but the people I know that have had it this autumn have all been really unwell after it, so I'm very wary. (I don't understand why either as it's not a live vaccine) but they're not known to each other & all reporting the same things??

I have had both Covid and flu vaccine privately. Covid was £85 and flu £15. I had them a week apart, with the Covid one first. No reaction to the flu one and only minor arm ache with the Covid, whereas last year I felt vaguely unwell for about 3 days. Someone was saying on another thread that the vaccine given privately is an updated one to that given on NHS. There’s a different reference number. I don’t know how true that is in all areas but the ref number on mine was the more recent one.

Given so many people are reporting being so unwell, and also were in the Summer, it’s madness to have pulled back on all the vaccinations. Imagine all those front line health workers who can’t afford the cost of the private vaccine and are now either taking time off sick or passing it on to their vulnerable clients and colleagues. I get that it’s cost saving but I reckon costs of not giving it may end up being higher.

Couldn't agree more it's going to cost way more (even if you only look at it from the NHS immediate financial POV not even looking at the long term health cost to the NHS(

I'm barely holding my own at the moment as it is, if I get anything I'll be back in hospital. Yes that 'anything' could be flu (that's why I've had the jab & am staying away from as many people as I possibly can) but Covid is still a biggie to me.

i had my flu jab Saturday. My arm is a little bit sore but no big deal, I feel crap, but felt crap before it, hard to know if it's affected me or not.

How did you find out the ref number of yours? I'll see what my chemist is offering.

I'll pay to at least reduce the effects of Covid.

thanks fir your message 🫶🏻🌸

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 20/10/2025 18:56

@AutumnCosy2025
I only know what vaccine I had because it was on the confirmation I received from the chemist after having had the jab. I didn’t know before and I only looked because it was being discussed on another thread. I had Comirnaty LP.8.1 and other posters were saying the NHS one was K-something but I have no idea whether this does actually mean it’s more up to date or better in anyway, it’s just what was mentioned on this other thread .

I’d for what a strange virus this is. I have had little in the way of a head cold, it started straight away in my throat (picking) which turned into a dry cough, that now become a wet cough and a squeaky chest and this evening my nose is is now blocking up.
It’s like it moves around your body. I’ve had stomach cramps, loose stools, terrible wind, this evening I coughed so much I vomited, pee’d myself at the same time and when I’ve gone to change clothes my period has started, a week early. FFS.

Thanks. I'll see what the local pharmacy has to say tomorrow.

My friend thinks I'm nuts! 😂 but we've long ago had vastly different opinions on Covid.

Fortunately we're old enough to disagree & not fall out over it 👍🏻

Oh you poor thing, that sound utterly miserable! Have you got someone there with you? I hate living alone when I'm really unwell.

This sounds absolutely terrible, I feel for you! How are you feeling this morning?

Last night I slept the best I’d slept in what feels like ages. This morning I feel very very weak still and my face is so congested but overall I think I have turned a corner. People are saying I look better which must mean something!! I came down with it on Wednesday so it’s been nearly a week now.

Sarhawari · 21/10/2025 07:51

I don’t live alone, I’m ok, seem to be sleeping ok, probably too deeply as I wake feeling like I’ve not moved for hours, full of aches and pains and my chest full of congestion where it has settled. I started coughing on Thursday so hopefully I’m starting to come out of it now.

daydi · 21/10/2025 14:01

Today I have decided to stop medicating to give my body a break! It’s been a week of it now and want to see how I am without it. I am coping okay! I have done housework and managed to eat some lunch which is a big positive. Been drinking lots of fruit juice and that’s helped I think. Nose is super stuffy and my body feels worn out but doing better for sure. Hopefully it stays that way!!

@daydi that’s good you are feeling better! I am on day 10. Slightly congested but nb. No smell or taste though 😭

RainBow725 · 21/10/2025 19:12

I’m on Day 3 now and bloody furious because I paid for a jab 17 days ago and it doesn't seem to have had any effect at all. I feel awful and I know it’s going to be weeks or months before I am anywhere normal again - based on previous 3 infections. Stupid virus.

Sallycinnamum · 21/10/2025 19:23

I sympathise OP. I had it last week and haven't felt so ill in years. It hit me like a bus and felt like full blown flu. For the first two days I had to crawl to the bathroom as I could barely stand.

Thankfully I felt better 5 days into it but its left me with horrible blocked ears and I still don't feel 100%.

I only tested as it was rampaging through my office and I didn't want to infect my elderly parents.

Cloud44 · 22/10/2025 11:08

How’s everyone feeling today? I’m on day 4 and feeling a bit sorry for myself!

Spicedpear · 22/10/2025 11:52

I’m day 10 & over it thank god. But residual nausea & stomach aches - v weird!

chocolateisnecessary · 22/10/2025 11:54

I’ve been negative for a few weeks now. Am
building up exercise as still feeling pretty rough. Managing to walk for 30mins now but my heart rate is through the roof.

daydi · 22/10/2025 12:21

I feel like I’ve gone backwards today..very achy shoulders, back, jaw sometimes etc. Chest feeling tight again. I did walk the dog yesterday and do housework which I think was too much. Trying not to panic over the chest tightness but it’s so hard.

Reading about you poor people who have been ill for 10 days/a few weeks has me worried! Feeling sorry for you all. Hope everyone’s okay xx

What day are you on @daydi ? Sorry to hear you feel worse today. Fingers crossed we all feel better soon.

martha79 · 22/10/2025 12:37

I feel like I've finally turned a corner the last couple of days (over two weeks since it started, negative test a few days ago) - still very tired but not the absolute wiped out feeling. Quite achy still but I suspect that's partly all the lying around!

Please be really careful with exercise. This was a downfall for many with long covid. Take it really easy.

Cloud44 · 22/10/2025 12:43

Is everyone trying to work with it or having to take time off?

Yep - this was me last year. Still suffering from post Covid issues with my heart rate and fatigue/exercise intolerance a year on.. very fit runner before. Jumped back in to exercise a bit too quickly as I thought I was better.

You have to be very careful with Covid- it can really affect the heart rate and cause lots of inflammation.

Sarhawari · 22/10/2025 13:13

Anyone else feel like they have morning sickness? Cramps while you eat? It’s exactly as I remember it feeling. I feel nauseated by smells etc.

Yeah, I’m walking now instead of running. Trying to bed in 30mins walking a day five days a week. Googled a few papers on exercise and long covid and it said this was the way to go.

Yep. Always get this with Covid. Reminds me a lot of having hyperemesis during pregnancy. Horrid.

I think the key to preventing long covid is to not rush back to exercise before you’re ready and listen to your body.

Walking may well be fine but I wouldn’t have anything set in stone and see how you feel.

If you feel great then that’s fine! I definitely felt wiped out and had chest pain when I was walking the dog post
covid.
