COVID - the worst I have ever felt

I have tested positive for Covid and feel absolutely rancid. There’s no reason for this post except to moan about it! I had a temperature of almost 41, shivers and chills, body aches, sore throat and now I’m awoken with what I assume is post nasal drip. My sinus’ are so congested and it feels like my throat is getting clogged up with mucus that won’t go down. I feel absolutely horrendous. I have had Covid before but only lost my senses and had a light cold but this is a different breedSad does anyone know a remedy for this stuck post nasal drip?

@OhCrumbs90 @Delatron I also had a problem with heart rate when I had Covid in 2023 - Myocarditis is associated with it. I was almost hospitalised with it during the first couple of days of illness but managed to stay out with nurse care on the phone. I was 48 at the time, ordinarily very fit & healthy. I don’t scare easily but that really did frighten me.

Whilst he didn't test I strongly suspect my DH has had COVID over the last few weeks. He had what he thought was a cold but I've never seen him like that. He was dragging himself around, had a shocking sore throat and cough that was chesty and tickly at the same time. He also couldn't breath properly and was wheezing like an old train at night. A couple of times he took himself down to the sofa as he didn't want to disturb me.

He phoned the Dr who asked him to come into the surgery, listened to his chest and gave him antibiotics. He feels as though he is back to normal now, but has still got the cough which catches him every so often. He's treating that with normal over the counter products.

Sounds really scary. My cardiologist said they are seeing so many young and healthy people left with these heart issues.

Heart attacks have gone up 30% in young people since Covid..

This is why I asked why did they test? Is there a specific reason they were advised to or is it a case of wanting to? It still boggles my brain that people are testing because they feel poorly, and not just in very specific circumstances as your own and I genuinely wonder why 🤷‍♀️ we are all encouraged through work to vaccinate against flu however not covid, something to think about 🤔

I think that’s what a lot of people on this thread are saying - that Covid can be serious, can cause proven debilitating post viral effects & is as serious as any upper respiratory disease is in those immunocompromised, elderly or with other health conditions. But also in healthy individuals who then go on to develop heart or other issues. I think like a lot of us feel, that downgrading it to the equivalent to a common cold is unhelpful to public health. And that vaccinations should be extended outside of the very narrow parameters it’s now been reduced down to. It’s not a matter of returning to the extremes of the actual pandemic. But surely self testing is also simply a responsible thing to do regardless of your existing vulnerabilities or comorbid health issues? It can affect you in a much worse way than a common cold. I don’t think the majority of posters here self tested because they felt they had a simple cold.

Isn’t self testing socially responsible too, despite the public health message that people no longer need to? I had to order groceries in & felt a duty not to allow the delivery driver into my Covid ridden space & kept my distance (& wore a mask). I don’t think it’s something anyone wants to catch still - it doesn’t typically clear in the 3 days you’re allowed to self certify off work & nobody wants time off or their families getting it. Especially when not everyone has the luxury of even statutory sick pay. I think the government downgrading it is because theyre not capable or willing to properly manage it post pandemic. So it’s being equated to an innocuous cold & completely minimised.

I got it after visiting an elderly relative in hospital with pneumonia. I don’t know if they would have tested her for Covid as standard? She was discharged & no actual doctor told us she even had pneumonia it was only reading her discharge letter which explained what her strong antibiotics were for. It was called Community Accquired Pneumonia but my mother did not have symptoms before she went in to hospital (over a different issue). Of course hospitals are full of ill people & being elderly, she is more susceptible. But would they have told us if she’d been diagnosed with Covid? We should have got her to self test on discharge to see.

I also see there needs to be a balance & the country can’t sustain the economic consequences of returning to lockdown levels of illness management.

Personally, I tested as I wanted to know what was making me feel more ill than I've ever felt before, and it was helpful when talking to my GP (and getting signed off work) to say I could confirm I'd had positive tests. I also wanted to have a clear guideline as to when I could be around people and be less likely to pass it on - I still felt pretty awful once I'd tested negative but friends could pop in without worrying they'd get it.

I'm now four weeks from infection (I'm pretty sure I know where I got it as was at an event with lots of people) and two weeks past my negative test - feeling a lot better but still not my normal self and trying to very patiently pace getting back to activity/ exercise.

I had covid twice since 2022 and it was like a cold. Just caught it again 10 days ago and it has been awful. Literally, I have never felt so unwell. Had temperature then shaking with cold, awful headache, face ache, felt weak and ended up on the couch for 4 days. Still feeling unwell despite testing negative although not at bad as first week. Absolutely full of snot (gross) and have a productive cough. Im normally fit and healthy and usually get over illnesses quickly. Thinking of checking in with GP re the coughing, etc lingering.Maybe day 10 is still early days? Previously when I had covid it was fine within 5 or 6 days.

Hi I have had the exact same thing regarding the silex tests all positive then orderd some others off Amazon and they are negative,it's really quite worrying, ive tested positive since October every 3 weeks so I've had it 3 times but that's on the silex tests the other brand is negative,I still feel so poorly and have had a sore throat for 3 months now,how are you feeling now? Best wishes

Hey all, how is everyone doing? I’m not sure how far in to this current bout I am, it could be 2-3 weeks, I’ve been so up and down.

I’ve had lateral flow test issues, I wondered if anyone has experienced this: 9 days ago, I tested positive with Silex brand, 4 times in 2 days (yes, I’m
obssessive… I was trying to work out if the feint lines meant early or late stage). DH tested negative with the remaining test out of the box. On day 2, I tested negative with a flowflex test. From then until earlier today, I had 5 further flowflex negatives. Tonight, silex positive and flowflex negative, taken back to back (call it research 😳). I am feeling really unwell, last night I was scared I might not wake up if I went to sleep. Do I have Covid, or something else? I’m
pretty sure it IS Covid, based on previous infections. What is going on with these tests? They were all in date. I just wondered if anyone else has experienced conflicting results like this.

i understand that some people don’t see the point of testing, but I have a very vulnerable mum. I have, of course, avoided contact with people anyway.

Hi I've had the exact same thing regarding the silext positve tests then other brand negative,so it looks like I'm catching it every 3 weeks I'm on my 3rd lot now and it's really getting me down, ive had a severe sore throat last 3 months and tummy pains, hope you are now feeling better? I'm so glad someone else had had the same thing with the tests I was worrying x
