Omaze Yorkshire House 2025

Has anyone figured out where the new Yorkshire house on Omaze is yet? Omaze Yorkshire House III

The description says: "Overlooking the verdant Vale of Mowbray between the sweeping Yorkshire Dales and the heather-clad North York Moors. The charming market towns of Richmond and Bedale along with an abundance of local beauty spots and historic sites are within ten miles.

  • Darlington Train Station: 17 miles
  • Easy access to the A1(M)
  • Leeds Bradford Airport: 48 miles "

The house does look amazing from the shots they've shown so far. It may be a little too remote for my liking. If I want to travel to London, 17 miles to the nearest railway station seems a bit of a trek.

They don't seem to have put up the running costs yet either, which they have done for previous houses, but I think this has only just gone up. I think I would want to put up a lot of solar panels to reduce the energy costs if I won it, but that can be tricky if it has listed building status.

It's amazing, more like an estate. Far too big & remote for me

It looks brand new to me. Here’s the location.

It’s gorgeous. Much better than the Surrey house, which seemed tiny in comparison.

The only concern I have, apart from its upkeep, is that there loons line there’s a farm building behind. Or at least that I think. I think I can see a roof of a barn in the centre. (Or not sure what it is). Not that I’m fussy, you understand…

I’m sure someone will come along soon with the property details of when it was for sale, but I can’t find them.

FurForksSake · 16/10/2025 22:44

I see someone shared the map I found. Looks like it’s very close to a holiday park? Perhaps they’ve bought part of it to build this? It’s gorgeous and I’d move in.

Good luck but I am tried to win £10 once with the maze and it was a very limited time to claim me £10 and then it took me three weeks going round in circles to get that £10 so I had all those dreams and thought when it came down to it do you even get the prize? Got me on all sorts of direct debits so I cancelled and after weeks got the money put back as it unfortunately felt like a total scam. Going back to earning my own crust! X

Council tax is likely to be £4,734.84 for 2025-6 (Band H, North Yorkshire).

Would be good to know the EPC rating, but it's not likely to be good.

Reasonable shopping facilities in Richmond.

I would look into solar panels to bring down the energy bills, but if it's a listed building or in a conservation area it gets a bit trickier (not impossible, but can delay things somewhat).

Access is by a shared private road, so no council gritters in winter: a good 4x4 would be advisable. 😉

Then again, they are throwing in an extra half million for running costs, which should cover a few years of actually living in the place. Personally, I would prefer to move in for a few years rather than rent it out - I just worry too much about getting a bad tenant, since the court backlogs are still huge.

I doubt I would get anything like £4.5m for resale. Omaze snap up houses like this for a reason. The problem is the limited pool of people with anything like enough money looking for fairly remote houses; they tend to prefer easier connections to London. It's a bit of a mission to get a train from here. But sitting on an asset that would probably still get around £3.5m is a nice problem to have. 😆

I drive past what I now realise is the gated lane to access this property all the time - I had no idea it existed until I heard the new Omaze house was on my doorstep! You can't see it at all from the main road.

I've searched the postcode and can't find any current or previous listing, other than for the small farmhouse that has/had the same name as this property. I'm wondering if it's a modern build, built by the previous owner (a very successful business man) on part of the farmland, or where the original farmhouse used to be.

It's actually not remote at all (well depending on your perspective - it's a 20 minute drive to the nearest train station but that's not considered far in these parts). It's literally a four minute drive from the centre of Catterick army garrison.

I dont think its been for sale, my wife knew the previous owner ( who subsequently passed away unfortunately) she bought it over 30 years ago and renovated it,only to have the holiday park built less than 100 mtrs away from the house. We currently live less than 4 miles away. biggest problem is UKs largest army barracks only a few minutes away, but it does meen we have a large tesco :-)

I love this house, but it's far, far too big.

I'd move in and enjoy it while its on the market for what I anticipate will be quite a while, and then trade down for something like the first yorkshire house.

SallySellsSeaShellsOnTheSeaShore · 01/11/2025 13:00

On the satellite map it does not look that close to the Holiday let's. Set in 15 acres.

I guessed from memory, the swimming pool is 162 mtrs from the closest chalet.

Would you want to win a house in that bracket if Rachel Thieves comes after you with a "mansion tax"

TheToff · 03/11/2025 20:29

Tunstall Grange, sold privately off books, Original house deemed to expensive to refurbish as too much wrong with it. So planning granted in dec 2012 for a new property to be built to then current standards re-using the old bricks with new ones to match close to same footprint. I believe more energy efficient etc, etc.
will be interesting to see the rough running costs to see how that went.

keeping fingers crossed as would be great to become its custodians for a few years

It is a new build in that the old building were demolished you can find a video on YouTube showing it, from the builders

It looks gorgeous. What are the downsides of being close to the Garrison?
