I’d like to book some sort of activity for an hour or two suitable for my 80 yr old MiL, me and dd13. MiL lives in north Cornwall so Wadebridge, Fowey etc all ok but not further west.

Context Is we will be down for the weekend for MiL surprise big family birthday dinner and just wanted to do something nice during the day for the three of us. We will only have two-three hours really - inc travel time.

Wine/gin tasting etc out as dd needs to be able to do it too. Was thinking maybe we all get our nails done somewhere a bit special?

MiL is truly lovely - I want to do something nice for her. Shes not too mobile but is fun and always up for a nice cocktail.

(We live in London so am a bit lost on options).

What about the Cowshed Spa at St Moritz hotel? Or a boat trip?

I love a boat trip, especially a river boat trip. There is a lovely one from Falmouth that goes around the coast and up the Hel river. And another that goes up towards Truro. If you could find one that includes a cream tea or something that would be nice.

2-3 hrs including travel will soon go in Cornwall! St Moritz is a good shout depending on where you are. If you have your nails done just remember that MIL will need to go somewhere to have them taken off. What about a jewellery workshop? Working with sea glass is quite popular, I’ve just found this lady in Port Isaac ( and saved her details for myself!) - it looks like she may even come to you if that’s an option? https://nessharrison.co.uk/ Hope you have a lovely time whatever you decide to do!

Not sure if it's too far west but Bedruthan Hotel do daily craft sessions doing different arts/crafts activities for all ages. Worth looking into as it would be suitable for you all. Has a lovely spa there too, but I think like most places it is 18+. Lovely cafe and restaurant too with beautiful views.

2-3 hours won't get you far if it's to include travel. I would book afternoon tea at your nearest nice hotel, not very special but you don't have time for much activity.
