What should I keep to hand whilst the kitchen's being done?

We've got a cooking area in the spare room with instant pot, air fryer and microwave plus tea and coffee point. Have kept out enough crocks and cutlery for us to eat off. What else in the collective experience of Mumsnet am I likely to want to hand for cooking?

Hi op exciting we are doing this at the moment too. Id add a toaster and some tupperware to microwave. Dont forget prep stuff like chopping boards, knives, cleaning up stuff so tea towels, scourers, washing up liquid, and bins. It's not very glamorous but as you tend to eat all over the house I put a carrier bag on each door handle so all waste can go into there and then sort through on bin day and be absolutely ruthless about each day starts or ends with a clean up. We packed up the nicer stuff and hid, then used the crappie stuff that if it does get broken it doesn't matter ans we microwave stuff in old take away container so they can be chucked away after use.

Also we embraced it so bought pot noodles, gyozas, jacket potatoes and snap pot beans. Pretty cut salad in wraps with prawns and covent garden soups which can be microwaved in cartons they come in and loads of ready meals.

Where will you be doing your laundry?

And big bowls are useful for cleaning and prep

We tried to avoid washing up in the bathroom, so made extensive use of disposable cutlery, plates, cups and bowls.

Heated most food on a portable hotplate rather than in microwave. IIRC builders were using our microwave for their food during the day!

Service wash at local dry cleaners Johnsons. They provide bags of different sizes so when you fill one you know how much it will cost.

Thanks all! Utility room isn't being done yet so we'll do our laundry in there in the evening. It's very exciting but I admit I am in a state of mild panic

The husband is resisting the idea of ready meals but I think that's where we are inevitably headed

We had a lot of the Merchant Gourmet (or own brand) curry / vegetable stew pouches with microwave rice pouch. Some of these were very good and felt like a treat rather than just making do.

Paper plates and cups honestly. Trying to wash up is a bind. So much easier to reduce amount of dirty pots.

We ate a lot of toasted sandwiches and soup when going through this!

keep everything as simple as possible.
