Late and heavy period - normal or not?

I'm 48 so this is most likely menopausal. But thought I'd check.
Always had regular periods that last for about 3 days. Only once earlier this year it's been late by a few days. This time it's nearly a month late. But what's bothering me that it's much heavier than normal and now I'm in day 9 of it and still heavy like it's the first day. All day and night I'm doubling up with both a mooncup and towel and every night I've had to get up to change. Flooded on to bedsheets twice this week. Changing a few times a day. Can't go running without flooding through within minutes. No sign of stopping anytime soon. Passing lots of clots too. DH keeps telling me to see the GP. I'm not in any pain though just feeling run down and exhausted with having to be up every night for over a week. Is this just my new normal?

Can't be anything pregnancy related as DH has had the snip.

Sounds normal for 48. Im 48 and after months of clothing and flooding I had the coil fitted 6 months ago. Had occasional spotting and now nothing.

Mine were like this, after speaking to a disinterested Dr "it's your age" I went and had the Merina Coil fitted and never had a period again. It could stay in longer than 5 years as it was not used for contraception. When it was removed my Menopause had basically finished.

I've had this experience too (I'm 51). Currently on day 14 of the heaviest period of my life (sigh). But the last one was 2 days and very light.

Sounds normal. I'm 47 and I'm currently on day 28 of bleeding this time, usually its stopped by now. This time it's been light most of the time, occasional flooding, the past 3 days have felt like a normal period with period pain. The longest I've had since I knew I was perimenopausal.

I feel fine which is why I've not seen a doctor yet. I have also never got on with hormone contraception (it affects my moods too much tried several over the years), would love to stop my periods entirely but I won't put myself through the mood changes.

Previous periods this year have been fine.

Ah no. It's all so depressing 😭. When's it going to end? I need my sleep to get back to normal. That's the worst thing.

I started getting very heavy periods around then. I ended up going to urgent care one day as my period was so heavy it had flooded through tampon, pad and jeans within 30 minutes. I had an internal scan and was diagnosed with adenomyosis. I had a Mirena coil fitted which stopped the heavy bleeding and cramps.

I also had to take iron as I was anaemic.
