I have googled it and tried several ways,
but I cannot get the nice redness and flavour than the finely shredded one used in shawarmas have.
Anyone has a recipe?

I want to know too.

Some of the very red pickles have beetroot. Or yellow versions turmeric.

I want to know too. I could eat the red cabbage from a kebab shop by the bucket load.

Same with the pickles. I looked on the back of a jar and that brand had a lot of sugar in it. Was surprised. Still eat them as a tasty garnish.

Good question! We always try it but have never found the perfect recipe. We do make it in a plastic food bag and so you can squish it all round and leave to marinade in the fridge which works nicely.

Oh, we need to wait a bit longer till some kind person with the recipe sees the thread!

Do you mean pickle in the sense of making sauerkraut?

I’ve made it before and used a similar recipe to this. I did leave it for at least 2 hours in the fridge before eating, but I think it’s better left for more like 6+. I made it in a big bowl so I could periodically go and stir it around.

Oh thanks! I think it is the lemon, instead of vinigar what makes most of the difference!
I will give it a go! Maybe adding some spices too. I like the idea of getting some betroot in too!

I do like sauerkraut and the one I am after is very similar, but both flavour and colour are slightly different and I like it more!
When I google it, I get tonnes of sauerkraut versions.....

Edited

This is pretty much the recipe I use, I don’t measure it but the ingredients are the same.

I prefer apple cider vinegar to the wine vinegar. Lemon definitely good. Also a tiny bit of honey to mellow things out.
