I’ve got my daughter’s main present, but want to get her a few smaller things to open too. Can anyone recommend any tried and tested gifts. Am hoping to go to Smyths tomorrow. Any toys/crafts your kids/girls can’t stop playing with!

Make your own slime kit

For a 5 year old of any gender magnet tiles, always magnet tiles you cannot have too many and I've yet to meet a child who is not engaged with them for hours.

Bath bombs or similar that are fun but don’t hang around the house ;). Amazon or Lush!

I have a 5yo DD and she is very easy to buy for!

Do you mean stocking fillers ie physically small? Or small budget? Or both?

These are all hits for DD:

Jewellery making kit, she got so many for her birthday and is constantly making bracelets for everyone. NB check recommended age / size of beads, as bigger beads obviously easier.

Card games eg Go Fish, UNO, Happy Families. And a card holder for little hands!

Colouring stuff. My DD is constantly drawing and writing. She likes and uses new felt tip pens, and those cute Legami ballpoint pens.

Doll eg Barbie or Anna & Elsa

Hair accessories

I’m not sure if you may consider her too young but I got for a friend’s 7 year old a lovely analogue watch with a pale rainbow silicon strap. I am told it went down a storm. It made her feel quite adult to have her own watch and of course helped with learning about the time which she had struggled with.

Hama beads
Fimo clay
Stickers
Make your own keyring set
Bracelet making set (or just mixed beads and some elastic).

You can make a bunch of coloring calendars with her favorite characters, could be wall or pocket ones. It's fun and also explains the concept of a calendar pretty well.

A decorate your own water bottle. I get these as birthday gifts for parties dd (5) is invited to and they always go down well. Quite a few of them are being used for school.

At that age, my DD loved many of the above plus:

Scratch art pads
Sand art
A balloon helicopter (made an awful noise, though!)
Fidget toys, including a Jacob's ladder
Schleich animals
Pop up monsters/aliens, which jumped into the air
Lego Friends
A gem excavation kit, where you used a wooden hammer to extract plastic gems from plaster of Paris 'rocks'.
