Hello,

Dc want to go away for a few days in half term & want a spooky vibe. I was thinking Harrogate but have never been. Any recommendations for must sees & do's?

I know about Betty's because of MNs!

York is close ish by and great for spooky goings on.
Hole in wand mini golf, lots of Harry Potter themed stuff and ghost walks

beaniebabby · 06/10/2025 17:02

@HalfasleepChrisintheMorning would you say York is better? No reason we can't do both.

If you’re wanting a spooky vibe definitely choose York.
There are ghost tours one has a wizard theme I believe, they can also search the city for the ghost statues: https://www.theyorkbid.com/ghosts-in-the-gardens/

Hole in wand is fun.

Another vote for York for spooky! Lots of ghost tours to choose from. We went last weekend and lots of shop windows with Halloween themes.

Yep York for October spooky vibes definitely. Or Whitby because of Dracula connection

ZenNudist · 06/10/2025 19:28

We had a mid-week break in Harrogate and came home a day early as it was so dull. I'd go to York.

TheGreatWesternShrew · 06/10/2025 20:03

Harrogate is tiny. It’s nice for a trip to Betty’s and then some shopping and the blues bar but that’s about it. Definitely do York instead.

Yeah agree, I think tweens would be bored. I've been for a couple of nights and there's a big park, tearooms, the Pump Room museum there's not a great deal to do. Fine for me and my partner for 2 nights but wouldn't take kids there. We even had go and explore other nearby villages for something to do.

Great suggestion the food is really nice and much less of a queue than bettys!

HisNameisDanBurn · 06/10/2025 22:20

York Maze do a Halloween thing, aimed at tweens/teens. If it’s anything like York Maze in the Summer I’d highly recommend.

ivegotthisyeah · 14/10/2025 13:15

@beaniebabbyi have just read that mama Doreen’s in York has permanently closed! Being wound up which is a suprise!

beaniebabby · 14/10/2025 18:47

Just a little update to say we really enjoyed York, such a lovely city. Highlights were the ghost walk and Betty's! Thanks all.
