Interested in your thoughts. Couple with no children, gross income approx. 76k (usually a few thousand extra but not guaranteed). Mortgage + CT £950. How to you imagine our lives?

Living in a semi in a city in the North East. Two cars, regular hair and Botox appointments, dance classes, modest savings. No private healthcare, private schooling etc.

Certainly no private schools if you have no children!

Lots of free time.

A clean tidy house.

Lots of lovely holidays.

Time for hobbies.

One of these things is correct!

Depends where you live £76k is worth a lot more North than it is South.
Id imagine you have a nice home, nice life, fair bit of disposable income so nice holidays. Mel’s out, lots of savings.
Why ? Is this not the case ?

DisplayPurposesOnly · 05/10/2025 19:21

Decent holidays. Two cars, less than 10 years old. Hobbies given real attention. Shop at Waitrose or Sainsburys. Eat out once or twice a month.

A clean, pristine home. A yearly hoilday somewhere warm and happiness from no terrors destorying your home. (Ds14 managed to break his window hinge by leaving it open in 60mph winds last night so i am slightly salty Grin)

I think I'm asking because we I am always quite worried about saving. We do go on holidays, but other than that we are pretty conservative. Our lifestyle isn't vastly different to when we were earning 50k between us, we just save more. I always assume everyone earns more. We live in a tiny house (which I love, but that's why the mortgage is so low).

Anyway, thanks for replying.

It’s less than £40k each so fairly average salaries. I’d expect a small house as house prices are so out of step with earnings. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone earning that salary didn’t take many holidays.

Interesting thanks, it's a fairly uneven split, I don't earn anything like 40k unfortunately!

In which case I’d assume reasonably comfortable on the salary you mentioned?
