Online or shop recommendations for bifocals?

I've recently moved house, and based on local recommendations, went to specsavers for an eye test. I felt like cattle on a conveyor, hated the frames on offer and for basic frames (not Prada/Chanel etc) it would be £470 for their buy one, get one free thing for 2 pairs.

It's my first time getting bifocals. I can afford them, but would would prefer to actually like the frames for that money. Anywhere else I can look or you'd recommend?

Asda are great for bi/varifocals. They are a lot cheaper than anywhere else as well.

I didn't think you could get bifocals anymore? Anyway, I have worn varifocals for about 25 years. I get mine from Asda. Never had any problems with them and they are considerably cheaper than anywhere else.

I get mine (varifocals) from Pret A Voir (online). Worked out about £400 than the local optician, for the same pair of frames

Ahh, maybe they are called varifocals then? As said, I've never had them before. Thanks everyone. Any other recommendations?

You definitely want varifocals rather than bifocals. I really would not recommend getting them online as they need to be measured for them to work properly and then fitted.
You can take the prescription anywhere, so just pop into to any local optician and see which frame you like. With the lenses, generally the better ones cost more, but some people get on okay with the cheaper ones.

UPDATE- thanks everyone. I wish I'd gone to ASDA opticians years ago! Just as a comparison for 2 pairs which were about £80 each for the frames. Not branded frames.

Asda- 2 pairs £140

Specsacers £470!!!

In the above price, Asda included the wider varifocals view, thinning the lens and anti glaze coating, which spec savers wanted to add extra for each part.

I'm thoroughly please with the asda ones and would highly recommend.

@JDM625 I am pleased to hear that you are happy with Asda. I have never had any issues with my varifocals from them. I usually go for glasses and sunglasses.
