Anyone else been to see Sleeper tour and found it a bit odd?

Was at the Electric Ballroom last night and it was bizarre. Hardly any women there at all, hardly anyone dancing, loads of people recording on their phones, at one point a bloke physically moved my mate out of the way to get a better shot on his phone, the atmosphere was really off. Band sounded great, but it was so strange. Also the roof of was leaking, really sad that what was such a lovely venue seemed a bit neglected.

I didn’t go to Sleeper but I was at the EB earlier this week for Belly. I didn’t notice anything particularly off with the venue. It’s always been a bit grimy but it’s part of its charm!

Yes i think because it was raining there was an issue with the roof leaking, it was bad enough that you’d have got really wet under it, there were a couple of bins there so clearly a known problem. The audience make up was definitely not what I expected though. Really odd.

What a shame, I love Sleeper and have seen them before a several times but not for a few years, Louise is fab.

Aww. Didn't know belly were touring

It's always a bit of a sausage fest at gigs unless it's a pop
Girlie. Didn't notice that many many phones at my last 2 tbh

I must admit I’ve not been to many smaller gigs, more arena shows and festivals. I do love live music but if this is typical I’ll avoid similar. My friends and I were glad to leave really it was so odd.

Ah I saw both Belly and Sleeper recently at small venues (not London) and thought they were both fab. Definitely more blokes than women there for both gigs, but still a fair number of women, and a nice atmosphere.

Can't believe Tanya Donnelly and Louise Wener are both 59. Both looking and sounding fantastic. Both inspirational

My theory is that gigs are the main way for middle- aged neurodivergent men to socialise. I went to a Sleeper gig and got the same vibe as you! Plus, I reckon they all still fancy Louise. I danced and sang extra hard to try and compensate!

Saw Belly at a different venue. One of my favourite gigs in years. It was utterly charming and the audience around me were lovely.

Yes that probably makes sense, we felt similar.

I'd love to have gone. The leaky roof sounds quite funny! Shame about the crowd. I'd imagine a mix of ex 90s indie kids of both sexes, maybe 40-60, maybe some people bringing their late teen/early adult kids.

Treeleaf11 · 14/10/2025 23:09

Gigs like this have always had a mainly male crowd back in the day.

I was at that one too. Loved that gig. But the venue is a bit grim.
