What should I take as a little thank you gift?

I made a couple of new friends through taking up a sport. One of this lovely bunch is from Shanghai and has invited us all over to hers for a meal tomorrow (and if her prawn crackers are anything to go by it's going to be fab !) I would like to take her a little thank you gift, but she doesn't drink so that's out.
Obviously I could take a box of chocolates or flowers, but is there anyone who can tell me if there is anything that I should...or shouldn't take. (like flowers that have a bad meaning or anything like that) . Would a plant be suitable? I believe that red is a good colour ?

What would you like - take that. We normally take the pudding but that's prearranged.

Scented candle is always good? Posh biscuits? I always gift something I wouldn’t usually buy myself, chocs etc

If you’re good at baking I’d take a dessert or if not a scented candle.
