Any recommendations for a secure cross body bag?

Just back from holiday and DH had his wallet stolen from a zipped pocket. It made me feel vulnerable as my baggs are all relatively flimsy. I make bags and they are original, colourful and quirky but wouldn't stop a thief.
I think I need something with some security features for travel.

I use a travelon cross body bag when I'm away. It isn't the most stylish but feels very secure, slash proof material and strap and all the zips are lockable, and lots of zippable interior pockets.

Make sure whichever bag you choose has thick attached straps rather than thinner clip on type ones. I had my cross body bag ripped off me in Barcelona in front of our hotel. It had thinner straps. The thief came running out of nowhere and yanked my bag with such a force that the strap broke. He also injured my shoulder.

Uniqlo round mini shoulder bag or similar.

MiaTui do a cross body bag called Emma. They are planning an update to add an extra compartment soon as it is a little small for all day trips.

If you are worried about security of cards, passport and cash when travelling then the only way is to wear one of those travel money belts under your clothes.

a friend of mine had her bag stolen from her shoulder. The thieves used scissors to cut the strap. She didn’t feel it straight away as it was a busy area. She saw the back of their head as they disappeared in the crowd.

personally I use a pom pom cross body bag with a thick strap and I have the bag on the front of my hip. I keep my tiny wallet and my door key in the inside zip pocket. In the external zip pocket I keep a pen and lip stuff.

I also have my phone on a cross body strap which again I kind of hold……

however if I have a coat or jacket on with an Inside pocket I will put cash and a card in there. Zipped up.

if travelling I do NOT take all my cards out with me each day. I pop them in the safe.

Travelon
Mine has fastening clips on the zippers and mesh run through the fabric to protect from cutting .

Not the prettiest but functional.
And those RFID protectors for cards

Fortunately DH had only taken one card and about 50€. His phone was in his hand, that would have been far worse. He was able to cancel his card within 10 minutes.
I generally only take one card and a limited amount of cash on holiday.
I carry a bag with a cross body strap but as @mummymissessunshine says the strap could be cut.
The Travelon bag looks to tick all the boxes. I might buy a body belt for DH.
I hate that this is necessary. We were at a Spanish fiesta so obviously prime circumstances.
@Mt2gt1 A few years ago in Barcelona DS1 left his rucksack in a cafe. We were amazed to find it still there when we rushed back half an hour later!

I have a foldie and they seem pretty good - you can clip the zips closed so that they are harder to get into

If you like colourful and quirky maybe look at Popsy? I think they do some cross body bags. I myself have been thinking about getting a Nordace one but ive not yet taken the plunge.

TheChosenTwo · 02/10/2025 19:38

I have one of those half moon ones from Uniqlo, it could be snipped for sure but it’s quite a wide thick strap and I feel very secure with it.
the only day it has anything especially valuable in it is travel day when it has my cards/passport/money in it but it’s basically small enough to even sit on the plane wearing or theoretically it could be worn around my waist when seated if I was worried. When we get to wherever we’re going I maybe take one card, a small amount of cash and my phone. Not the end of the world if it’s taken although certainly bloody annoying if it were to happen.

Have a look at pacsafe bags. They have lots of anti theft features. Not the cheapest but lots of options for men and women. I bought the messenger one about 15 years ago that is still absolutely functional and in good condition (I’ve used it for holidays, dog walking etc) think it’s like the LS200. But I bought the xbody convertible this year in black that I like.

I read that as a "secure body bag" for a moment 😳😂
