Where to start with couples counselling or therapy

We’ve been together 20 tears and had our share of ups and downs but are happy. We now recognise that we need a third party to help us find a way forward. We love each other and want to stay together, but we have an issue that is proving hard to resolve between us and need a third party to help talk it through and facilitate a good conversation.

I’ve never had counselling. Where do I even start? What should I look for in a good counsellor, or are they therapists?

It’s a great idea. Most people go at breaking point when It’s much better to go before that. I don’t have much advice on what to look for, you may have to try a couple before you feel comfortable or that you click with them. You can also try individual therapy at the same time, which can be really helpful.
