Holiday Board Games/Card Games

limitededition555 · 02/10/2025 09:10

I’m looking for recommendations on games that we can take on holidays for two people (adults) for after the kids go to bed. Something that would be easy to pack obviously. DH not massively into games but I am, so need to find something good to persuade him
TIA!

I like OK, Pass the Pigs and Trionimos as they are light and easy to pack.

Banana gram. Comes in a little yellow banana shaped bag. You make crosswords, a bit like scrabble. Why not take a pack of cards? We play Words with Friends on our phones. We usually take a jigsaw too

Upwords, SkyJo.
DH isn't much into games but he enjoys these.
Nb. Upwords is bulky, but there is a travel version.

Codenames Duet (cooperative)
Love Letter
Sea Salt and Paper
Scout
The Crew Mission Deep Sea
Quirkle (as long as no colourblindness)

chuzzlewitthechipmunk · 02/10/2025 11:39

It might be too game y for him but I love 7 wonders duel. Jaipur a more basic 2 player game.

FreshsatsumaforDd · 02/10/2025 11:39

Rummikub travel edition. Lots of tactics moving tiles around. Travel edition very well designed.

Medee · 02/10/2025 11:41

Another vote for Qwirkle, comes with a bag for the tiles. (My colourblind husband and ASN daughter make a good team for this one!)

Monopoly Deal is a great game, nowhere near as tedious as the board game.
Bananagrams also good
We tried Pass the Pigs but it’s a bit boring unless you turn it into a drinking game!

pambeesleyhalpert · 02/10/2025 12:12

Phase 10, monopoly deal

tramtracks · 02/10/2025 12:31

Canasta !

Tontostitis · 02/10/2025 12:38

Mexican Train, it's a dominos game we play with friends but also play on our own as a date night.

Serenity45 · 02/10/2025 16:28

Sushi Go, Jaipur, Uno / pack of cards / card version of Monopoly I think mentioned by PP, Patchwork (trying to think of 2 player games with relatively small boxes / tins). Agree that Bananagrams and Quirkle also great

MumOf4totstoteens · 02/10/2025 16:46

The sock game - you’re pretty limited I think with it just being the 2 of you. Cards against humanity is a laugh but think you need more than 2 people

WTDress · 02/10/2025 16:47

Uno and Dobble.

Shit head if you are taking a normal pack of cards. (A favourite of DH and mine)

61here · 02/10/2025 17:36

Yahtzee or backgammon.

escapefortheday · 02/10/2025 18:11

Rubik's Gridlock

AudiobookListener · 02/10/2025 18:38

Look at the Button Shy UK website. Their games ar all in credit-card sized wallets. I like Rove, Sprawlopolis, Natureopolis, but those are all solo/cooperative games. Some of the Button Shy ones are for several players though.

Scoooobydooo · 02/10/2025 19:51

Banagrams, Dobble, Geister Blitz

Sonny36 · 02/10/2025 20:10

We love Yahtzee, UNO and cards x

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 02/10/2025 21:48

Bsnanagrams and Mobi

WanderingWellies · 03/10/2025 09:25

I’m not a games person but my ex (and some good friends of mine who always want to play games when I see them) is and the one I liked best was Quixx. It’s a dice game that works just as well with 2 players as it does with the maximum of 5 and rarely lasts longer than 10 minutes per game. Very small so easy to take on holiday (just make sure you have pens or pencils!) and available on Amazon. Just be careful not to buy the German version! I did (just got the cheapest one) but luckily remembered the rules from playing it with my friends not long beforehand.

meganorks · 03/10/2025 19:52

Bananagrams or shithead for cards.

I taught my husband cribbage to play on holiday which is a great card game, but will probably require someone to teach you. And I seem to be the only person who knows how to play!

limitededition555 · 04/10/2025 07:03

Thanks for all of the suggestions! Just ordered bananagrams Grin

Is bananagrams basically scrabble?

MarzipanMaze · 04/10/2025 10:10

Sequence is brilliant and packs down much smaller if you take it out of the box
