How many facial piercings is too many?

I met a university student today who had multiple facial piercings: lips, chin, nose, eyebrows, cheeks... at least 15-20 piercings in total. I found it hard to read her facial expressions and to understand her speech as i couldn’t see her mouth properly (and I think she had a tongue piercing which affected how she talked).

All I could think of was: how is she going to get a job when she graduates? Am I in the minority for (inwardly) judging?

The only concerning part of this is that her speech was affected. I believe that speaking properly gains a lot more respect. People are more inclined to listen when you are articulate. I personally don’t think having lots of piercings should be an issue visually, we are meant to be bringing children up to be kind, non judgemental and encouraging them to express themselves. My mother would disagree with me so possibly an age thing?

She can easily get a job by taking them out. My nose stud fell out a few weeks ago and within a few hours I couldn’t get it back in, now there is no trace of it.

Some lip and eyebrow piercings can leave a mark but not that big.

Understanding speech is visual as well as auditory. Her facial expressions were masked by all the metal.

I don’t think you’re in the minority for judging at all, but I do think you shouldn’t judge. The tongue piercing is probably healing still which is why it’s causing a problem with her speech

I interview occasionally for positions at work. And yes, I would judge.

@CraftyNavySealI guess so, maybe being a student is a time for non-conformity and she’ll transform into a bland graduate in 2 years’ time.

I can’t see how 20 facial piercings covered all facial expressions.

It depends what job she is looking for and how judgemental the people around her are. I agree that it could be an age thing because my mother would be appalled by it.

Any at all would be too many for me because I don’t like them, other people feel differently and that’s ok.

Tbf a nose stud looks ok

It’s up to them but some jobs it’s a distraction and yes I would judge them. It’s a bit like those that tattoo their entire face and then wonder why nobody will employ h them. I quite like some facial piercings but not when they overdo it. Can’t stand the septum piecing though

I would say one is too many but I'm an old fuddy dudd.

This, those would cover less than sunglasses, a beard never mind a burqa. Yet we see people in employment wearing these things all the time.
If an employer would judge me for piercings, tattoos, hair colour etc then they aren’t the kind of employer I would wish to work for. It would be them that would be missing out!

I didn’t say her facial expressions were all covered. I said I found her facial expressions hard to read. Her eye and mouth area in particular had large and protruding piercings. Not just studs and hoops. I’ve searched for some photos online for similar and found the attached as examples of the kind of thing that I’m talking about.
