Would you help BF with the cost or go alone?

Last year BF and I went on a short trip to somewhere I loved. I didn't realise before but it's a special place for a particular hobby of mine and I'd love go back for a trip focused on that.

BF doesn't feel quite the same way about the hobby, but has been enthusiastic when he's joined me, and says he'd be happy to join this trip.

However, I know it's going to be more expensive than he's expecting, more than he'd usually spend on a week away.

I could go alone, and have done previously, but equally it would be nice to share the trip.

Cost of the HB package is £1500pp including flights. If I pay the single supplement, it will cost me £2000.

So, I was thinking of saying if he can pay his £1500, I'll cover all other costs associated with the trip from the £500 he's "saved" me.

Is that a good plan? I'm not sure what he'll make of it tbh. It might still be too much, but at least his costs will be fixed. He might also hate the idea of being subsidised.

Any thoughts?

I'd phrase it differently. Say you are going, and if he would like to come it will cost £1500 as you'll pick up the extra because you know it's not really his thing. Then the expectation is that he's not coming but can choose to if he wants to. Less pressure. It's a lot for a week that he's not that bothered about.

Yes, I think that's what I was thinking. I'm going, if you come it saves me some money and I'm happy to cover other costs as it's my hobby. I thought pointing out that costs reduce if he comes might make him feel more comfortable about accepting.
